We had a whirlwind trip through the Windy City. For real! We blasted through the city and did a ton of stuff in only 2 1/2 days. I’ll give you the highlights…
Day 1 (1/2 a day…) started out at the Adler Planetarium. We saw some really entertaining shows and learned a ton about space, infinity and beyond!
After the planetarium we walked around downtown and posed by the Bean. It was really cool! A very interesting work of art.
We also stopped in Macy’s where they were having a flower show up on the 9th floor.
Actually, I was more draw to going into a store that had 9 floors in it! You sure don’t see that in my hometown of Toledo! My kids were nervous looking down the escalators.
Day 2: the morning was spent at the Shedd Aquarium. It’s a really great aquarium, and my favorite part was the penguins. Awwwwww!
For the afternoon, we walked next door to the Field Museum of Natural History. Sue greeted us.
That night we went for Chicago famous deep dish pizza. I’m not sure why I didn’t get a picture of it. Oh, it was because I was so hungry I inhaled it when it arrived! We walked 8.5 miles that day. I can run 20+ miles and not be as exhausted as I was from being on my feet all day and walking 8.5 miles!
Day 3: we went up 103 floors at the Willis (Sears) tower. Surprisingly, the elevator ride only took 60 seconds. It was a little freaky when it started moving back and forth during our ascent. Our ears popped 5 times as we went up!
We went into the “Ledge” which is a glass box hanging on the outside of the building. You could see straight down to the street/river below. My son was a bit scared at first, but soon he was jumping up and down in the box.
The rest of the afternoon was spent at the Museum of Science and Industry. It is a ginormous building with a little bit of everything in it.
My son especially liked trying to fool everyone into touching him while he was playing around with the plasma lamp. They would get a quick zap when they touched him!
We had a great time exploring the city. I was that tourist who took many pictures of the tall buildings. It’s such an eye opener to see how our daily life would be different if we lived in a city. We didn’t think twice about walking a mile to see something in the city, but back home we would just hop in our car instead. One thing I did not do was go running outside. I got up early one morning to run, and since the rest of my family was still sleeping, I hit the gym instead. Now I know why everyone hates the treadmill! I had to use the elliptical first, and that was a snoozer because I didn’t have any headphones. And when the treadmill opened up, I got to stare at my iPhone for all 5 miles. Luckily Netflix on my phone had closed captioning, but still, it was pretty darn bad looking at the tiny letters. Ugh! Not to mention the fact that I had only packed tights because I thought I would be running outside. Phew, sweaty!!
Hope you enjoyed my recap of Chicago! I’d love to go back in the summer so we could see more of the outside attractions.

How about you? So tell me…..
Q: Do you enjoy elliptical machines?
Nope! My feet get numb when I use them and I don’t break a sweat 🙁
Q: Are you afraid of heights?
Q: Do you live in the city, country, or suburbs?

Wow this really makes me want to go to Chicago! I love museums and all the types of places you went. 🙂
We bought a CityPass, which was a discounted ticket price for all of those attractions, so I made sure we did everything! It was a lot of fun. Good memories 🙂
My feet go numb when I use the elliptical too! I wonder why that is? Definitely the #1 reason I dislike ellipticals too. I break a sweat if I put the elliptical in fat burner mode and crank up the resistance, but then my feet go numb quicker I think!
Those elevator pictures are priceless!
It is so odd to have numb feet. I try mixing it up going backwards every once in a while, but it doesn’t help much.
Chicago was a lot of fun. It’s only 4 hrs away from our house. I’m surprised we haven’t traveled there sooner!
