Time for Training Tuesday!!  Getting all ready for the Columbus half marathon on October 21st.

My mileage is cutting down, because race day is Sunday!!  Time to start stalking the weather, and thinking of my race outfit and gear.  At least part of my race outfit is easy – Run Toledo Ambassador singlet!  So comfy.  This week I am basing my workouts on how I feel.  “Will this workout make me feel better, or worse, on race day”.  No need to go crazy this week!  You know, taper madness 🙂

This is what went down last week.  I didn’t realize how even my activities were last week!

  • Miles run: 26.8
  • Miles biked: 26.5

Monday –  4.1 miles, easy run.  Always a great way to start the week!  I had the day off work due to Columbus day holiday, and my kids had a two hour fog delay for school.  Got a little later start, but also got to sleep in a bit!  After my run, a 26.5 mile bike ride with Alan!   Holy moly, it was freaking hot out.  84 degrees and sunny.

Went on a trail I had never been on.  Pretty leaves falling down.

Saw some fun stuff along the way.

I was convinced this was a coyote.  Sadly, the quality of the picture makes this impossible to figure out!

After the ride we ate a “big ass” pretzel.  Really, it was huge. We couldn’t even finish it!!

Tuesday –  Rest!  Enjoyed my lunch at work with this cute note from Alan.  Awwww.

Wednesday – 3 miles , treadmill in the morning + 4 miles, speedwork at night.  I coached at the MIT group. I typically check with the coach I’m subbing for to see what the workout is, to make sure I’m “comfortable” doing it.  I mean, I don’t want to get signed up for something I totally suck at! She told me the repeats would probably be a little faster than 8:20 in the back of the pack.  Oh sure. We ended up running 7:16-7:33 for each rep! Way faster than I expected, but a great workout.

I think the wind and rain was encouraging us to go faster!  That, and it was too dark to see my watch so we were just running by feel!

Thursday – 4 miles treadmill.  I still have a million (wait, now a million minus one) episodes of Big Brother to watch, so it was a treadmill morning.  Hammies a little stiff from last night’s speedwork, so it felt good to get them moving.

Friday – 5 miles.  My plan said “7 miles” for my last long run, but I didn’t want to tire myself out for the 10K race on Sunday.  5 was good enough!  It was pretty chilly outside too.  20 degrees colder this morning. Time to start getting those capris and tights back out of the drawer!

Saturday – REST DAY!  Got to see Sydney run her last race for the cross country season.  Unless a varsity girl gets hurt, because she is an alternate for the upcoming league meets!  But then again, Sydney is hurting too, so that might not be a good thing.  Ugh.  It’s complicated.

Sunday – 10k race day!  MacQueen’s Run for Your Life race.  Recap coming later this week, but spoiler alert: I nailed it 😉 . Despite the warm look of this picture, it was only in the 40’s on race morning!

Q:  What would you prefer as a hot pretzel dip?  Cheese dip, cream cheese, cinnamon dip, or mustard?

Q:  Do you carve pumpkins for Halloween?

Q:  Are you running any themed races for the seasons?  Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas

If you want to, Run Toledo offers one for each!  I’m not doing the Thanksgiving race, but I will be running the Christmas one.

  1. People were not kidding when they said the giant pretzels at Local Thyme were big. They were HUGE! Definitely have to go back.

  2. That IS big ass pretzel! There is a restaurant near us that makes pretzels with crab dip and cheese on top. Soooooo freaking good. That’s what I would pick!

I’m glad you nailed your race!!! Can’t wait to hear about it. 🙂

    What’s wrong with Sydney?

    1. Sydney mentioned her lower back hurt (on one side) late last week. She ran at the meet on Saturday, then said it really hurt afterwards. It really concerns me because she has a mild case of scoliosis (but not enough to warrant treatment), so now I’m wondering if there is pain due to that curvature? With the XC season ending, she really wants to be involved in the team, even if just as an alternate, so it’s stressing her out quite a bit 🙁 I just don’t think there is an easy fix that’s going to fix it in a week (or it’s totally nothing and she just needs to rest! So hard to tell sometimes!!).
