One thing I love about the “after race” season, is the holiday 5Ks!

turkeychase

Run Toledo has two races which are quite fun.  First up, the Chase the Turkey 5K in downtown Toledo.  Thursday, November 22 at 9:00 am. Fun race, because you  really do get to chase a turkey! But beware, the turkey last year was a high school cross country runner, who happened to qualify for States this year.  Better get your speedy legs going if you’re going to catch him! Even if you don’t get anywhere close to the turkey, you will doing good for your body and heart, and pre-burning calories for the big meal coming up (it’s a real thing!  I think).  Age group awards are PIES!!!  yum.

This year they have white shirts.  A long sleeve white is pretty much the only color shirt I do not have in my collection!

I worked packet pickup last year for the Turkey Chase and I really enjoyed seeing the families who were all running (picking up 6 bibs + for their family!).  They always mentioned someone in their group who “wasn’t a runner” but runs it every year!  This event does offer family pricing, which means for groups registering together (party of 4 or more) you save $7.50 off each person.  Trust me, they really don’t care who is in your “family” group.  That rate deal is good up until race day too.  (Run signup link)

In early December the city of Sylvania kicks off their Christmas season with Miracle on Main Street 5K.   I have run this race the last two years and enjoyed the atmosphere. The street lights were lit up when the race was finishing.  The shops were all a glow with their decorations. 5K race is on Dec 2nd at 4:00 pm.  This is a fav race of mine, due to getting a PR here 😉

Santa followed the race and there is also a kids fun run.  Kids fun run starts at 5pm.

We got scarves instead of shirts for participating, and ornaments as age group awards (always fun to display on the tree, and brag.  haha!).

Ok, and there’s some delicious craft beer involved too.  Yum.

You can find info on these races at RunToledo.com. (Miracle on Main St signup link)

Did I mention there’s also free race pictures?  Always a great perk! (PS, look how crazy warm it was last year at this race!!  Tank tops in December??)

Q:  Do you have any holiday races on your calendar this year?

I’ll be a the Miracle on Main St 5K again!

Q:  Have you ever run with your family at a race?

I organize a “Willford Thanksgiving Run” with my kids and Alan every year.  There is usually a 5K in my neighborhood too, so we’ll probably do that.  Or maybe run at the park with some other friends – decisions, decisions!

  1. I don’t think I have ever run any holiday races! I don’t really do 5ks and that’s what most holiday races are around here, I think. I do love just running in my hood and seeing the Christmas lights though! Also, there’s nothing more relaxing than a brisk, morning, Thanksgiving run solo!

    1. Oh yes, there is something to be said about having a morning to yourself before all of the Thanksgiving family time begins 😉 I’m not ready for the lights and decorations at the store quite yet, but I do enjoy running around seeing neighborhood lights too!
