For the past few weeks I’ve been trying something new.  Neither of these items are sponsored, I paid for them myself!  (but hey, if you’ve got any products you’d like me to try for free, I’m always willing to give it a go.  haha!!)

The first is kinda really a big deal, because if you’ve gone for long runs you know how important it is to have your fueling correct.  I’ve been trying out Tailwind. I was really hesitant to try anything new, but I’ve been really hungry at the end of my long runs about 4 miles before they ended.  Not good!

I was concerned about having a 2nd bottle of liquid to consume during my run.  I am notorious for not drinking much water at all when I run and it’s a very rare occasion that I use both of the small water bottles on my hydration belt.  However, the first day I tried Tailwind it was a game changer because I think I sweated through 4 gallons of water, so that 2nd bottle was great to have! I thought the Berry flavor was really good.  I was surprised it had no color, which was also good because I don’t want my bottles to stain. By the time I ended my 18 miler, I was not hungry and did not have a growling belly. Win!!

On my 20 miler I tried the same strategy, but it was very apparent to me that I can’t “carb load” by eating cheese, crackers, summer sausage and wine the night before.  Lesson learned – I need some pasta. Pretty much nothing was stopping my belly from growling, but at least the Tailwind didn’t upset my stomach. I will be adding this product to my race day list!

The other new item I’ve been trying is the Koala Clip.  The problem I wanted to solve – carrying my phone while wearing shorts in the summer, without wearing my big hydration belt.  Although my belt is super comfy and I love it, I don’t want to look like I’m geared up for an ultra run every time I leave my house.  I thought the idea of the Koala Clip was great! Just slip my phone into it, and clip it to the back of my bra.

At first the clip didn’t work at all for me.  I had a hard time putting it in the right place, and an even harder time taking it off!  I do like to stop and take pictures on my run, so it was important that I had access to my phone easily.  Especially when someone sends me a text. I was frustrated. Luckily my skills did improve drastically and the clip works, so it looks like I’m keeping it now – they do offer a 30 day return policy – give a try, return it if you don’t like it! You can’t beat that offer.

Just slide it down your back, to the top of your bra (don’t mind my messy room!)

I do wish I bought a color other than black though.  My original thought is that it would “blend in” and be stealth-like.  However, due to it’s slight lumpy appearance, I think I’d rather highlight the fact that I have something strapped to my bra instead of having it look like it’s some sort of top secret device strapped on my back.  But hey, from the front no one would even know I’m wearing it. It’s really given me a feeling of freedom – and don’t we all appreciate that?

My bra style is a little lower than others I think, but you don’t notice you’re wearing it!

I still might end up buying a bra with a pocket in it from Senita, which was recommended by one of my friends.  Half of my sports bras won’t work with the Koala Clip due to the tiny size of the straps (hey, I don’t need a lot of support so my bras would double as “yoga” bras really).  I’m waiting for a great sale before I give that a try!

Q: Have you tried anything new lately that I need to know about?  I do love new stuff!!!

Q: If you carry your phone with you, how do you do it?  Armband? Something else?

  1. Yay tailwind! It’s been a gamechanger for me (I’m all about the raspberry flavour however) and I love how you can get a big pouch of it and save on plastic wrappers. I can’t drink quite enough of it to fuel me completely but it’s let me cut gels etc by more than half and indeed doesn’t upset my stomach.

      1. Amazon did one here and that’s what I started with. Love that they aren’t at all fizzy like those nuun etc tablets always are. But I had to give the green tea flavour one away!!
