Week 4 of training for the Glass City Marathon is complete. It was a good week of training, and a crazy busy week personally. I had to work 5 days instead of my usual 3 day, and that just left me a bit exhausted (yes, I’m soft. LOL!). What can I say, I really like my routine and days off work! I ran 30.5 miles and walked almost 5 miles. Overall my hamstring issues are improving – maybe a combination of PT work, work load, a couple of other things? I’m happy with it so far! I run 124 miles in January, and walked 27 miles.
Mon – 4 miles treadmill. A few less miles than last Monday due to a tougher workout later this week. Nothing exciting about this run other than it felt good! Our PM workout had us doing one of my “favorites” (the kind of favorite that makes you say UGGGHH every time they show up on the workout), Renegade Rows! Our weekly team challenge is burpees, so we also did 10 burpees to end our workout (even though I also did 10 in the morning, go me!).
Tues – 5 miles Track Night! Despite being able to sleep in this morning, I woke up early. It always happens that way, right? My day was cram packed. I ended up working at all three of my jobs today… most of the day at the bank, a meeting at my network admin side job, and in the evening I was a running coach! BUSY day. Our intervals for fartleks are getting longer (3 mins on, 1 min off x 8).
Weds – Rest day from running, strength workout in the PM. I was pretty tired when I got home from work, but we got the workout done. We did Marcia’s Standing Abs and Strength Workout video.

Thurs – 7 miles, speedwork! I can’t really call this Tempo Thursday, but today’s run incorporated race pace and threshold miles. 2 miles warm up, 1 mile RP, 1 mile T, 1 mile RP, 1 mile T, 1 mile cool down. I was excited to see if I could do the paces I wanted to, and excited when they happened! Don’t get me wrong, it was challenging, so maybe a little too fast for me – but I’m keeping the option out there.
We celebrated my parents’ birthdays, which are 5 days apart. My mom is 81 and my dad is 83. Dinner followed by cake and ice cream. Happy birthday to them!!

Fri – 4 easy treadmill miles. It was tough to get out of bed this morning, but I did it. Felt a bit tight but felt better afterwards. My warm up glute activation exercises have been helping out. A standing option makes more sense for me than something like glute bridges. I won’t be doing glute bridges before I do outdoor runs, so this works well!

I took a walk with my friend to catch up. We haven’t talked forever and ended up going for almost 5 miles! Then I had a date night with my husband and we went out for a drink. It was a nice end to the work week.
Sat – 10 miles, long run. After a much needed good night’s sleep, I was ready to go! The sunrise was just amazing and it set the tone for our run. The miles went by fast as we chatted away. The full marathoners ran 10 miles and the half did 6 miles.

Afterwards I brought some donuts home to the family. The production of Krispy Kreme donuts is mesmerizing! 🙂
Sun – Rest day! We got snow! Very exciting for sure. I’ve been catching up on some projects. My daughter and I made this wreath for the front door. We couldn’t find any pine “parts” in the stores so I just stole some from my other holiday decorations. The left is the inspiration photo. I think it turned out good!

Q: What’s an exercise that makes you say UGGHH every time?
Renegade Rows and PUSHUPS. I hate pushups!!
Q: Are you addicted to Pinterest?
I’m not! I’d say Instagram gets more of my time, especially recently because I only have happy stuff in my Instagram feed compared to my FB feed.
Instagram gets most of my time! I only turn to Pinterest when thinking about house projects/updates. And sometimes recipes!
That sky on your long run is so amazing. I love it!
You had a very busy Tuesday, my goodness!
Awesome week!
Pinterest is my go-to for keeping my recipes organized. I have plenty of folders “to make”, “success”, “crockpot”, etc. When I saw that sky I had to send pictures to my family, who was sleeping. “See what you missed!” 🙂 It was breathtaking!
I love the glute activation exercises as well and they really help me to stay feeling good. Totally addicted to Pinterest and I’ve been working on mine full time the last few months. Hope you check it out 🙂 Busy week for you! Love that your son is still working out with you
I will have to check out your Pinterest pins! It’s been great having my son join me – it’s keeping me accountable for sure!
Glad your hamstring is feeling better! I agree that Instagram seems to be more positive than FB, probably because of the people/content I follow. Nice job with your training this week!
I shouldn’t have mentioned my hammies out loud because now they are feeling a bit more ornery. It’s a work in process though, I know that.
What an awesome week of workouts for you! So happy that your hamstring is feeling better.
I’m primarily on Instagram even though I have a Twitter and Facebook account. I just find Instagram to be easier to use and the people are more active too.
Happy belated birthday to your parents! That’s so cool that their birthdays are so close together.
I only follow my kid’s school accounts on Twitter. So much rage going on over there! I could spend the whole day looking at the cute puppy and kitten pictures that Instagram suggests for me LOL!
So glad to hear your hammie is behaving! My least favorite exercises are front squats and v-ups, probably because both feel so hard (can you hear me whining?). Lol!
Nice week of training and now I want donuts.
Ugh on the V-ups! I can’t do those right now. I overdid it a few weeks ago on an exercise and my lower abs are still sore – the kind of sore that feels like injured! I only notice on some ab exercises so that’s good. The donuts were so yummy 🙂
I miss track so much! I still can’t do raw speedwork recovering from my fracture. Doctor thinks it’ll be about 6 months before I can go back to that kind of pounding on my leg. Insert grimacing face.
I really dislike planks. I can do any other core exercise but planks kill me.
I’m addicted to social media, but I’m more active on Instagram and Facebook than Pinterest. I do pin lots of recipes and never make them haha.
6 months seems long, but it will be here soon! Planks are a good one for me – I’d take those any day for doing pushups!!
Happy birthday to both your parents! We celebrated my stepdad’s birthday today – he will turn 75 tomorrow!
Love all your track workouts and fitness with your son. I hate pushups, but I do like renegade rows.
My son has been dedicated to our workouts. He’ll be all swole by the time summer gets here 🙂
I hardly ever use Pinterest anymore. The problem was that I just kept dumping stuff there. Don’t get me started on FB…but anytime I go on Insta I know it’s going to be a good time b/c I just follow runners a few dog accounts.
Even though I work 5 days a week…with WFH I can do things at my pace and on my schedule. If it’s a light day I can kick back and relax instead of having to look busy until 5:00, and if it’s a heavy day I can take a break for dinner or to hang out with my family. It’s a much more humane way to live.
Glad the hammies are feeling better! Happy training!
I am very spoiled by my work schedule so when I have to modify it seems extreme! Instagram always suggests the cutest bunny, puppy and kitten accounts for me. I love scrolling through those! Instant mood booster.
Oh that sunrise pic! I have missed seeing my sunrises (and there was not any of that happening yesterday when I WAS out and about at the correct time). My UGH moves are lunges…I have decent balance (like for one-leg yoga poses), but ask me to lunge and I’m a wobbling mess.
I have been doing well on my PT exercises that need balance if I’m in front of mirror, but when I try to watch TV while I do them I’m not so good! I just kept saying “wow!!!!” when I saw that sunrise. It really was incredible.
Wow, your post really has everything- runs, beer, doughnuts, a sunrise, birthday cake… you had quite a week! So glad your hamstring is feeling better.
I think the exercise that makes me say UGH the most is pullups. I have to trick myself into doing them by pretending I’ll only do one or two sets. Then when I get into them I usually convince myself to do them all. Interesting what different things people love and hate!
Have a great week of running!
🙂 it really was a busy week! I’ve been skipping the pull up machine at the gym. I need to get back at it!
I don’t know the last time I went on pinterest — when I do, it’s usually to find something I’ve pinned myself — like a recipe — vs. browsing. I don’t mind renegade rows or push-ups but I hate mountain climbers.
That sunrise is stunning!
I do like Pinterest, but it’s such a distraction. I forget what I was even looking for after about 5 seconds of scrolling LOL!!
great week despite being BUSY!! your Tuesday sounded like it was really insane!
I love watching the KripsyKreme production line as well. Only seen it a few times but I’m pretty sure I had to be dragged away!
An “ugh” exercise for me is tricep dips. Never fails, they end up in every Les Mills Bodypump release. And ditto for the tricep (narrow) pushups!!
Rarely go on pinterest, still don’t understand the appeal because I never actually get the info I want immediately (ha! maybe more patience is in order?). I love the way the wreath turned out! Admittedly I *did* go to pinterest to look up ikea hacks for a particular hutch I got for free and used ideas from there to refurb it.
ooooo, Ikea hacks? I dare not look! Those wonderful little donuts chugging along on that conveyor belt was wonderful. I’m sure the employees feel differently.
Great week of workouts for you! Glad the PT exercises are helping. I used to totally love pushups but stopped doing them somewhere along the way. Ugh. I really loathe burpees though. Thanks for doing the Standing Abs workout!
Our running group burpee challenge was interesting. They are fun for a few, but after that just plain exhausting! Phew.
Great week of workouts for you this week! Looks like your training is going well too. I dislike burpees very much and do not do them at all. Happy Birthday to your parents. I don’t use Pinterest too much. Many of the things there stress me out.
The funny thing about Pinterest is how it sends recommendation emails. Some times they are spot on and I like the recommendations, but some times the ideas are way off and I wonder where the heck they came up with that idea!
Wow! That sunrise! And your wreath is AMAZING!
I definitely and not a burpee fan. It’s been forever since I’ve done them, actually!
I’m LOL at your Dad. Kind of looks like my husband, who doesn’t like being photographed (he’d rather be behind the camera) and rarely smiles. So nice you could all be together!
My parents birthdays were 2 weeks apart. Oddly enough so is my sister & her husband. But not me & my husband!
My dad has two faces – that one, and a big goofball smile that is really not his best. I always have to remind people that he’s not in a bad mood, just doesn’t make a good smile! 🙂
