The Churchills Half marathon happened this week. 25.6 miles of running happened this week, with a bunch of walking too. I have several audiobooks queued up and have enjoyed listening to them. The colors are still very pretty and the warmer temps made the walking even better. I also had a lot of much needed family time. Here’s what went down!…

Mon – 4 miles running.  Darn it, still dark out this morning!  But it was good to get outside.  We have several neighbors with Christmas lights on!  And, huge piles of leaves in the street.

After work I got to walk with my mom at the park.  Mom was crushing the selfie today.

Tues – 5 miles running.  Another dark run, but 50 degrees feels good!  We voted and then it was time for Taco Tuesday with some yummy drinks.

Weds – Rest day!  Fun day today… my son is home from college!!  He is having all of his wisdom removed and he wanted to go climbing and out to dinner before he is sidelined for a few days.  Who am I to say no??

I am feeling very accomplished with my climbing efforts.  With some coaching from my kids I was able to go up higher on a bouldering route.  I didn’t get all the way to the top of this route with the green holds, but I almost did!

Thurs – 3 mile run.  I got to spend lots of time with my son today.  His wisdom teeth surgery was surprisingly fast.  We were told it was going to be 90 mins and it was only 45!  But all went well and he did great.  I figured he would be sleeping on the couch or watching movies all day, but instead he was doing homework.  In fact, he did homework all weekend!  College is tough.

Fri – Rest day! My foster kittens got a new kitty tree! They love it! They are still a bit skittish but they are playful.

Sat – 13.2 miles, race day!!  I’ll give you details in my race recap, but I will tell you that I had a great race!  My daughter got a PR, and my husband had a very solid race too!  We saw so many friends on the course.  The party tent was jamming! It was 34 degrees at the start and we were a bit confused on what to wear. I could have gone with less clothes, but overall I was dressed fine. [UPDATE: read the race recap here!]

On a somber note, one of our Run Toledo friends, Dave’s coaching team, and general all around friendly runners/triathletes passed away recently and this year’s half marathon was in his honor.  He died in a tragic accident in Yosemite.  He died doing what he loved and will be truly missed by our community.  He was my age.  Gone far too soon!!  We went to a celebration of his life following the race.  It was a party he would have loved with so many from his family and community remembering him.

Sun – drive back to Ohio State… but first donuts & Starbucks! Waaaaa, missing my son (and daughter!) already but they’ll be back soon for Thanksgiving. 🙂 Sidenote: now that I have used all of my bonus Starbucks stars, I have to pay cash for drinks. OUCH. Will be curbing my Starbucks habit 😂

  1. Can’t wait to hear about your race. Hope it went better than mine.

It is so hard to dress this time of year. I always have amnesia.

BTW, the pumpkin frosty was great. I think I had one 3x.

  2. Congratulations! I can’t wait to hear all about the race. And congrats to your daughter as well! And husband. And yay for you son getting his wisdom teeth out. Now is the time to do it, while he’s young and it’s still easy. Unlike me, I had my bottom ones out at the age of 45, but let’s not talk about that fiasco.
Sounds like you had a very fun weekend with the kids. I know- it’s so hard to say goodbye to them. But Thanksgiving is coming right up! I can’t wait, I haven’t seen my son since AUGUST.

    1. Oh wow! Was that your choice to wait so long to get your wisdom teeth taken out? My son is puffy looking, but not in much pain – so it’s a win so far.
That will be so great when your son gets home!!

  3. Congrats on a great race! Glad to see you have gotten over your injuries and are back to your speedy self. It is always hard to say goodbye to the kids always miss mine

  4. That’s so nice that you all had such great races, but so sad about your friend. At least it sounds as though he lived life to the fullest.

Luckily coffee isn’t one of my vices, so I’m completely oblivious to how much it costs. But man, the price of Bandit’s dogfood . . .

Wow, impressed that your son did homework the same day! I had all of mine out when I was 30 — I had the weekend off from work (because I had little vacation days then) — it was definitely rough. But I also had several impacted teeth.

    1. We were all in shock when we heard about John’s death. So tragic.
I really thought my son would be sleeping all day, and be a wreck with the dental surgery but nope, he barely missed a beat!

  5. Woot!!! Congrats on your race! Sounds like you’re back to your “old” running self 😉 I had a tough time figuring what to wear for my race yesterday as well…temps in the 40″, but sunny BUT also quite windy. I probably could have had one less layer, but I was alright. I’d rather be too warm than too cold, especially this time of year.

    1. I underdressed for one half marathon and I’ve been afraid to do it again ever since! It was a good race all around. Luckily we’re all feeling pretty good today!

  6. Congrats on your race! And what a fun weekend–it’s so nice to have the kids home. I miss mine all the time. I know they have their own lives but still…lol

  7. Congrats on a great race, I can’t wait to read all about it in your recap!

You look like a beast on the climbing wall!

So sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. What a nice way to celebrate his life

    1. I have really been enjoying the climbing gym! It’s such a rush to make even small accomplishments. My daughter’s boyfriend works there so she also likes to visit there often 🙂

  8. Yay on a great race! And to your family joining in!

LOL on paying for your own Starbucks. I paid for a latte for the first time in ages this weekend I was seriously doubting my choice!

  9. I am so very sorry for your loss. That’s awful to hear.

I hope the wisdom tooth surgery went well. I had jmine out a few years ago, and I hated it. Dental stuff ruins me.

I hope you have an incredible Thanksgiving next week. It sounds like you’re excited.
