Come for the workout recap but stay for the kittens!  Yes, it’s foster kitten season again!!  I got a request this week to foster 4 kittens who were a little older, but needed socialization and weight gain.  They are cuties! They are 8 weeks old and only will be at our house for a few weeks. A short gig! My training plan for Glass City Marathon is still rolling along and there is only a month to go now! I ran 40 miles this week.

I first want to show you all a project my daughter worked on when she was recovering from her wisdom teeth surgery. She sewed a laptop cover! This was made from regular fabric, some felt and her old laptop sleeve which was taken apart because it had a broken zipper. She even quilted the fabric. I’m very impressed how this all came together, without using a pattern.

Mon – 8 miles.  I was again avoiding a true speed workout, but I did add some fartleks into this run to change the pace a bit.  I just don’t want to get hurt doing speedwork!

Tues – 4 miles.  At work there are a few people running the Glass City half marathon, the full marathon and we have three 5-person relay teams!  Tonight we had a get together to run/walk a few miles and eat pizza.  Many of the relay team members have never done a relay team or participated in the Glass City marathon.  I’m excited for these new runners!

Weds –  Good day/ bad day.  Good day?  We got those kittens I mentioned early.

Also, I met up with some members of our She Runs This Town group and went for a park walk.  The fresh air was much needed!  We saw quite a few deer in the woods. I did have a weird incident on Tues – the top of my foot randomly hurt! The only thing I can think of was maybe I sat on my foot while at work. It was quite troublesome! I made it through the run on Tues and then iced my foot Tues night and all day Weds. I had to lace my shoe differently to avoid putting pressure on that area, but this walked seemed to help the issue. Go figure! By Thurs morning it felt fine.

Bad day?  My uncle passed away this morning.  🙁  He was almost 91 years old.  He was never married or had children so my Mom and her sisters looked out for him.  He had been in good health up until this past week, and passed away without pain. We are thankful for hospice nurses to provide such a valuable service.

Thurs – 6 miles.  A frosty morning!  There is construction on my regular route so each time I go through it I feel like a jerk crossing where I’m not supposed to go.  The workers haven’t said anything to me yet, so I guess it’s OK.

Fri – 4 easy miles.  Actually, these didn’t feel very easy.  I was proud of myself for getting up early enough to warrant my glow vest.  The weather was pretty good, until the last half mile when it rained!

I spent the rest of the day helping my mom with arrangements for my uncle’s funeral.  I’m glad that I’m available to assist her.  We looked through old pictures and I found these two classics… my 1st grade school picture and when I was a teen.  Oof!!  I can’t believe that 1st grade picture.  The outfit!! The shag haircut!! I look like my brother wearing a wig.  And, how about that headgear??  I was eager to get rid of my braces so I wore it all of the time.

Sat – 18 mile long run.  The weather was really enjoyable – around 60 degrees.  I really should have started with a tank top, but I wore a short sleeve shirt instead and ended up taking it off.  My route took me along the river where the “walleye run” was going on.  Lots of fishermen lined up in the river.  You can see them in this picture.

Overall this was a pretty good run!  Of course I got my Starbucks for a post-run treat 🙂

Afterwards I went to the gym and used the elliptical for 20 mins prior to using the hydromassage bed.  It was such nice weather outside (70!) that I did yard work too and cleaned up the dead plants.  I am very happy with how much I got done! I got almost 40,000 steps today.

The kittens are warming up to us.  They still scamper away if you approach them but they will wander over on their own to join us.  Here I am being the crazy cat lady again.  Kittens are drawn to me!

Sun – Playing with kittens, all day long 🙂

Q: Did you ever wear headgear with your braces??

  1. Okay, first things first- I had that same shag haircut!!! Hahahaha. And, I did wear headgear at one point but only at night.
I’m sorry about your uncle. I hope he had a happy life, and to live that long and be healthy until a week before the end is a pretty good scenario. Still, I know it’s sad.
THE KITTENS!!!!!! I love how the reason they’re with you is to be socialized, so you kind of HAVE to play with them and cuddle all day, right? I love them all, but I’m a sucker for the orange ones.
Nice job on the 18 mile run! Does this mean you’re doing the full marathon?

    1. So far it looks like I am going to run the full marathon! It’s been iffy because Alan has been struggling with ankle/calf issues, but he did start running again this week. He said he’ll run with me, so I guess it’s on! We’ve got 20 miles on the plan for this week, so we’ll see how it goes 🙂

  2. Condolences to your family on the passing of your uncle. Hugs 🥰. Agreed, no one wants to get hurt doing speed work (which I have done too). Looks like training is going well for you right now-fingers crossed

    1. Training is going pretty good – but I still have some nagging pains. I’m sure speedwork isn’t going to help that situation, so I’m fine with keeping it easy!

  3. Happy to hear that your foot seems to have been a short-lived issue. Here’s hoping it stays that way.

How fun to have kittens again! They are cuties and all look so different.

  4. I’m sorry to hear about your uncle. Love to you and your family. <3
Those old photos are great. My mom put me in pigtails with fat yarn bows!
Your daughter is very crafty, I wouldn’t have even thought to make a new one like that.

You know I’m a dog person, but the kittens sure are cute

  5. I had the dreaded headgear! Thankfully there weren’t as many cameras back then, so the pictures are limited.

I would love to be a pet foster some day. I think it would have to be for a dog, since I don’t know how my dog is with cats. I was just talking about this with the Hubs last night, and he said there is no way that we would be able to give the dog back after having it for a few weeks. But I think we could do it! It would be win-win-win: our dog loves other dogs, we’d get the chance to love on more dogs without having to make a lifetime commitment, and the dog would get socialized and have an easier time adapting to its forever home.

    1. I think your foster plan sounds well thought out! I encourage you to give it a try! It’s actually not as bad as you’d think sending the fosters back. They always get adopted fast and I know they will find great homes. And I get really tired of cleaning up cat litter so it’s time. haha!!

  6. You look like my sister with your blond hair and shag haircut! I love looking back at old photos, even though I cringe when I see myself as a preteen. Nerd alert! I had braces for what seemed like forever, but no headgear, thankfully.

Glad your training is going well. I had that top of the foot pain a few times-I guess there’s a tendon there that can get angry. I swear, it’s always something new, right?

    1. Oh yes, it is always something!! Apparently I wore headgear for several months at least because there were pictures from Christmas and also of me sitting around outside in my bathing suit wearing headgear!!

  7. Oooh, kittens! i was thinking of that when you mentioned your DSLR – that if you don’t get to photograph anything else with the DSLR, you can photograph your kittens!
As you know, I have terrible experiences which include sore feet, so I always get nervous when people talk about pain on the top of a foot. So glad it was nothing serious for you! Talking of which – how is your husband’s calf?
That is a nice looking laptop cover!

    1. Alan was unable to run this past week, which was not great. But he has run a few times recently and thinks he will be able to run the marathon with me. So fingers we can do it together!

  8. I had a very similar shag haircut, LOL, but no braces. I did the Invisalign thing a few years ago (late 2019), though. It only took seven months & was relatively painless & low-maintenance. Cute kitties!
Sorry to hear about your uncle.

  9. Wow, you had a full week… great job on your mileage this week!
Aww, and I love the kittens! I love that you foster them… they’re so cute.
And your daughter did a great job on the laptop back. Does she sew other things or was this her first bigger project?

    1. My daughter usually makes clothes but she did recreate a top from Melanzana (a Melly) after seeing her brothers. That project turned out really good too!

  10. I am so so sorry about the death of your uncle. It is so hard when a family member dies, no matter the circumstances.
Good luck with your foot! I hope that the pain is gone for good soon!

  11. Sorry to hear about your aunt.

Hope your foot pain clears up soon.

And those kittens… so adorable!!! I would want to keep them all.

    Congrats on your long run!!

  12. I am so jealous of your cuddle puddle! I want kittens! Or puppies! Or both!

I’m so sorry about your uncle. it sounds like he had a life well lived, and that’s really all any of us can ask for. I’m sure your mom appreciates having you for support.

I’m also glad your foot is feeling ok. No injuries, please!

  13. Oh my goodness, the headgear! Kids are so lucky they don’t do that anymore, poor thing. I love it though, thanks for sharing. Sorry about your uncle, but it sounds like it was in the best way possible, without pain and surrounded by family.

Well done on your training this week! Definitely always here for the kitten pictures!

    1. At least one more week of kitten pictures coming! Of course I’m sure they will have another litter of kittens shortly after we return these. There’s no lack of supply of kittens in need when the weather warms up!
