So many ups and downs with the temperatures this week! I’m not complaining because it was all good. This finishes up week 11 of the training plan for Glass City Marathon. 7 more weeks to go! I’m still hanging in there, but have debated on dropping to the half. There’s still time to make that choice, so as of now I’m sticking with the plan. I ran 41 miles this week. Here’s what went down…
Mon – 8 miles, with some fartleks. I didn’t follow the speedwork which was written on my plan, but I did mix it up with some fast spots as I went along the path. It was chilly out and I saw see some flowers in my yard! The trees and bushes also had some buds starting.

Tues – Track night! I took a job to sub coach at track tonight. Which was great, because I had the WORST day at work. It was an entire day of frustration triggered by my software not working, which led to me troubleshooting and restarting my computer about a million times. I did not have the situation fixed by the time I left work, so it was a completely unproductive day (which is a huge deal when you only work 2 days a week!). UGH. I was tempted to just leave work and never return!! I did get out for a park walk with my mom which was a much needed break at lunch time.

But track night was pretty great! 14 x 400m. I agreed to run intervals because the top speed was going to be outside the “danger zone”, aka faster than I should be running which causes me to hurt myself. I had a small group of around 5 people running with me and I was very happy to hit my paces and engage in some good conversation with the runners. Like I said before, you just never know what you are stepping into when you sub coach, so to have a chatty group is a big plus! No group picture was taken, but I did bust out my racing shoes for the night. And did you notice I am in shorts and a tank top, and it’s 72 degrees?? wow

My husband had much less fun at the track. He got a quick eval from the team’s physical therapist regarding his hurt calf, and she said he should go see our doctor. Not a great thing to hear!
Weds – Rest day! A much less stressful day because my computer situation was fixed shortly after I got to work so I was able to be productive and make up for most of my lost time on Tues.
Alan did get a pretty good report from the doctor. His injury is thought to be with the plantaris muscle (in the calf muscles) and should be feeling better in a few weeks. No running yet, but hopefully soon!
Thurs – 7 miles. The trail is getting a trim! I was surprised to find this guy out there, but it was getting a bit overgrown. In the afternoon we went to see Mickey 17. It was interesting!! This time we were the only people in the whole theater.

Fri – 3.5 miles, treadmill. A quick run before our daughter got her wisdom teeth removed! Surgery went well. On the drive home she was obsessed with a little envelope with her wisdom teeth (I guess she asked for them?), then she started crying because she couldn’t eat Chick-Fil-A!! Poor thing! Initially we thought there was some serious issue going on! Drugs make people so silly. 🤪

After a nap her boyfriend came over and she was feeling pretty good! I’m happily surprised how well she is doing. Phew! When I picked up her meds at the grocery store I noted how fun it is to grocery shop sometimes. Alan usually does the grocery shopping, so on the rare occasion that I go shopping I find quite a few things that I like. It’s a bit of a treat! *Disclaimer – I get really overwhelmed grocery shopping when the store is busy, and it’s not at all enjoyable (I avoid doing it as much as I can), but when it’s not busy, it’s fun!

I also got to work on a sewing project. We now have a pretty pop of color in our sunroom.

Sat – 17 miles, long run! I was completely unmotivated to get out the door and run on this dreary windy morning, so I thought a change of scenery would help. I picked a trail sheltered from the wind and with a little bit of variety. Well, it was the same river the whole time, but still, something different that my typical route! I even wore a running vest, which I rarely do. It was a big help to carry water and carry my layers as I shed them. I should do that more often!

I did forget how long this trail is. In my mind I was going to turn around a lot sooner… not run almost the entire thing. This run seemed to go on forever! Of course a trip to Starbucks was necessary. This long run was better than last week, thanks to the colder weather.

Sun – Rest day!

Q: Do you enjoy grocery shopping or is it a necessary evil?
When my kids were little I used to love going grocery shopping in the night when they were asleep! It was a great feeling of freedom not to have to entertain kids while shopping!
Funny story about your daughter post surgery! Glad she’s doing better. Well done on the 17 miler! Hoping your husband’s calf issue isn’t as bad as mine was. It has really set me back!
His calf is already mostly improved! I thought it was a much worse injury but so far it just appears to be a pulled muscle. He’s pretty lucky!
My oldest daughter was hysterical post-op from her wisdom teeth extraction. She was SO goofy! She still has the videos of herself talking to the camera in her “stupor.” Grocery shopping is more of a necessary evil than fun task in my book, LOL. And I really hate putting everything away after I get home…but I am always glad to have it done!
Putting groceries is kinda like putting laundry away. I don’t mind washing or folding, but putting it away is another story!
That sounds like some good news about your husband’s calf injury. Hope he’s better soon!
Well done getting your long run done, 17 miles is a decent distance!
I quite like grocery shopping, unless the shop is too crowded with people in the way. I like looking at different options for things! But it has to be stress-free.
Crowded grocery stores are bad! It’s very distracting and really slows you down. I used to grocery shop on my lunch hour which worked out really well. It was a great use of my lunch hour!
We had a few 70+ degree days too which was really nice. It’s always fun to see the flowers and greenery popping up. Sounds like your running is going well again! yay hope you stay feeling good
Running has been going pretty good. I hope the cold weather holds out here until the day after the marathon, then it can get warm! 🙂
Ha! I asked for my wisdom teeth to bring home when I got mine out too – but I guess mine were so impacted they had to “grind them up” and couldn’t give them to me? And I guess I cried about that! I have no recollection but yes, those drugs are weird lol. Glad she’s doing okay now. Hope your husband is feeling better soon!
I can see how that would be very distressing for you not to get those wisdom teeth!!
The boys both had their wisdom teeth out over Christmas break a year ago. For the first few days their diet consisted of mini quiches and ice cream.
We’ve switched out the household chores so that Hubs is the primary grocery shopper now and IT IS WONDERFUL. I don’t really mind the grocery store, but I did mind the number of trips and the fact that it felt like it was my only outing from home during the week. I’m still the house Costco shopper, because for some reason that never gets old.
I used to be a pro at menu planning and having a very complete list of recipes and ingredients, thus creating a pretty complete shopping list. Now I can barely plan anything and hit the grocery store much more than I like! Sigh. I guess I can’t blame that on the kids!
I do not enjoy grocery shopping! I go in with a list, get it done, and out. We also use the shopper option–we pick our groceries on line and the store shops for us. It’s not always a good thing–sometimes the produce isn’t what I’d pick–hello 5# cabbage?
Great job on that long trail run! You know I enjoy mixing it up.
I think we’ve only used the grocery pick up once, on vacation, and it was super convenient! I wouldn’t mind using it but my husband says he’d rather pick the items out himself. Ok, then, go for it 🙂
Ooh, nice job on the 17 miler! Yes, a running vest is very helpful (as is cooler weather!) Glad it felt good. I feel bad for your husband though, but at least he has a diagnosis and a plan.
Meh- sometimes I enjoy grocery shopping, if the store isn’t busy and I’m not in a hurry. I do like to do my own shopping (as opposed to having my husband do it for me.) It can be fun to browse up and down the aisles sometimes!
My vest has been a surprising Amazon purchase. Quite a lot of functionality for a cheap price!
I used to sew a lot but I’ve gotten lazy.
I don’t mind grocery shopping.
Glad to hear the hubby’s injury isn’t serious.
I really do enjoy sewing. I just don’t have enough things to do with my projects! But now JoAnn fabrics are closing down around here. I’m not sure where people will get their fabric supplies in the future!
Great mileage this week, Lisa… despite the weather.
I actually like grocery shopping but yeah, I try to go when it’s not busy (Friday mornings are a great time to shop – I started doing that during the pandemic and it stuck).
Mon-Fri mornings all sounds like good options for shopping. Sunday afternoon?? Heck no!!
I forgot/lost your blog for a while and glad I re-found it! Anyway, I don’t mind grocery shopping but I also do it too often, and that makes each trip a bit easier because I don’t have to plan for a week at a time. Good job with the training! I am only biking right now (training for RAGBRAI) and I actually find myself missing running!
Welcome back! When I was injured last summer and could only bike, I really didn’t miss running at all! I need to make time for more cycling again this summer. I find it very relaxing. And far less sweaty. haha! RAGBRAI sounds like a fun adventure.
