It’s been a busy week. This is week 1 of the taper for Glass City Marathon and I ran 33 miles this week. The great weather also brought our first (of many) mountain bike rides. Let’s just get into it. So many pictures this week. Enjoy 🙂

This week started with great news – our fosters got adopted together!  Awww. And, I hit 100 days of stretching this week.

Mon – 7 miles, intervals.  Remember I said I picked out race shoes last week?  Well, this week I decided that my marathon was worthy of my extra special new race shoes that were still in my closet.  So, meet my race shoes – Saucony Endorphin Elite!  This time I mean it.  There are no other pairs hiding in my closet.  They felt dreamy!

With the temps almost 70 degrees, it was a good day for a ride on the mountain bike trail.  The first of the season.

Tues – 25 mins elliptical.  No boring pictures of my elliptical so here’s a cute picture of Sam playing with the fosters.  They love playing with him!

Weds – 25 mins elliptical before work and 2.7 mile park walk after work.  I need to burn off a few (ok, more than a few) calories.  My employer gave us mini donuts in the morning and catered lunch for us.  Yummmm.

Thurs – 6 miles running.  One more run in the race shoes.  They feel great!

The afternoon was spent at a client’s location setting up some new computers.  I love this place because it’s so pretty.  They are kitchen and bath designers and the showroom is amazing.

Fri – rest day for running.  30 mins of elliptical before a short work day.  In the afternoon it was 80 degrees.  What??  80 degrees!  That means great weather for another mountain bike ride.  7.25 miles of biking.

I attended a class tonight to “grow a bouquet”.  Hopefully this will grow into 5 plants which I’ll put in my garden and create the parts of a cut flower bouquet.  Fingers crossed for survival and success!

We took advantage of the warm night and watched some TV on our patio.  We skipped spring and went right to summer today.

Sat – 2.5 miles.  Not a great day for a long run for two reasons – 1) rain! 2) it’s a road trip day! I was going to run up to 6 miles today, but as I started the run in the light rain, it quickly turned into a downpour with thunderstorms so I headed back home. I got soaked!!

Next up, road trip to Ohio State University to see our son.  We got to have some lunch with him and then it was back to studying for him.

We went to the Franklin Conservatory primarily to see the tulips.  I love tulips and we saw a lot of them! We also saw a lot of cool plants, Chihuly pieces and butterflies. My husband teased that this visit was a form of torture, but he actually did enjoy our time together 🙂

Sun – 12 miles, long run.  To be specific, I ran 2 x 5.7 miles as my “birthday miles” run!  Then we went to the zoo and got to see a new family of otters.  So cute!

I can’t remember the last time my birthday fell on Easter.  The downside of a holiday birthday is that I still had to cook dinner and clean up afterwards.  Whomp whomp! But we did have a delicious meal, I enjoyed my family time, got great gifts and a cake.  It’s all good!! My daughter’s boyfriend even gave me flowers for my birthday. He’s a keeper!

Whew, a lot going on! One more week until race day. I have a few volunteer jobs at the race and I am looking forward to all of the race week excitement here in Toledo. Our remaining 2 foster kittens will be heading back to the shelter this upcoming week. I hope they get adopted together too!

Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!

Q: Do you have a favorite flower?

They are fragile as cut flowers, but tulips are so pretty and smell great! They are my favorite.

  1. Happy birthday! it can be hard when your birthday falls on a holiday – mine sometimes falls on Mother’s Day – so I’m glad that it was made special for you.

Sam is so cute! I love him!

I love tulips and hydrangeas. I love the look of peonies, but I hate the way they smell. I also think southern magnolias are gorgeous.

    1. Holiday birthdays are different! Not my favorite. My friend has a Christmas birthday. That one has to be tough!
I think I just planted some peonies! I have old people brain – I can’t even remember what they are and I planted them last week! I guess we’ll see what comes up 🙂

  2. oh my gosh, I love all the kitten pics! So great you cats get along with them 🙂

Happy birthday! What a beautiful cake. Looks like a great celebration! You can’t be 57! All the running keeps you young.

I like the colour of those elites! I’m a little scared of the race shoes now as I think it was a contributing factor in my injury as they don’t have as much ankle stability. But you seem to do well with them!

    Enjoy the taper!

    1. I was debating on having an “Easter” cake, which is pineapple upsidedown cake, or a birthday cake. Costco to the rescue! They had that chocolate egg cake, so it was the perfect mix of both!!
I debated for a long time on buying the Elites. BUT, when they only had one pair, which were my size AND they were pink, I knew I had to get them. We’ll see how it goes! Fingers crossed. I have heard our PT person doesn’t like the plated shoes in general and I can see how the lack of ankle support could be a big issue!

  3. Happy All the Things (birthday, foster adoptions, Easter, pre race week, new shoes)!

I love spring days that decide to be summer. Spring is nice, but it’s a bit overrated. Summer is what it’s all about!

    1. I enjoy the flowers and birds of spring, but the weather is so whacky! It’s my least favorite season. Yuck on rain and wind. This week we have a lot of extra warm days coming up… supposed to drop down for race day though. I sure hope so!!

  4. Looks like a nice week of weather except for the downpour (on a running day, #buzzkill). Your flower class really sounds fun! I’ll be excited to see how your plants do! Years ago, I had some strawflowers, and they were great! They looked nice in the garden, but also for cut flowers (and they looked beautiful for several months as “dried” flowers…hence their name, LOL). Good luck with your race next weekend!

    1. I was a bit bummed to learn all of those plants are only annuals! Seems like a lot of work for an annual plant so I hope I have amazing success to encourage me to do it again in the future.

  5. Happy birthday! Love the kitty pics, that pale one is so gorgeous but love the one of Sam playing with them, too. The 5.7 x 2 run is cute, well done! Enjoy your taper!

    1. The “buff” colored kitten was our favorite. He was so small compared to his siblings but eventually he caught up. He was very chill and friendly! Guess what? We called him Buffy. 🙂 (and “the orange one”)

  6. Happy birthday, Lisa! I love the names of those adopted kitties! I hope all goes well with your plants. Marigolds are supposed to attract pests so if you can grow veg nearby, those insects will go to the marigolds instead. I didn’t have much success with that but who knows what the tomatoes would have had otherwise!

    1. Oh good tip about the marigolds! I will try to do that. I told my husband that I’d like them to help me plant the vegetable garden for Mother’s Day this year.
