I’m getting back in the swing of running and wow, it’s been a bit challenging. I’ll blame it on the humidity and since it’s been a few weeks since the marathon and my training. But it’s all good, I’m feeling decent. I even rode a few miles! I do want to get some more ride time in and get stronger because group rides will be starting soon! I ran 23 miles and biked 15 miles. We had some hot weather early in the week (80+) and then the temperature dropped into some spring-like 60s. Here’s went down this week…

Mon – 2 miles running.  You know how it’s Monday?  You discover you put two different shoes on!  I thought something felt odd.  I went back inside and changed them before I ran, but don’t you think I would have noticed it when I tied them??  Afterwards, I went to the gym.  Getting back at it!

I got to spend the day with my Mom as a belated Mother’s Day get together.  We went out for lunch and to a botanical garden. The restaurant is famous for their pie selection so of course we had to get some!

Tues – 25 mins Pilates video.  I’ve never done Pilates, but my daughter recommended it so I gave it a try.  I did a beginner video which was a bit slow but did challenge me!  Then I made a real dinner.  Yes I did!  It seems like a long time since I’ve made a real meal for the whole family. Go me.

Weds –  4 miles running.  Was it humid today?  Yes it was!  Not sure why I even thought wearing a shirt was a good idea. I took it off shortly after I started!

Thurs – 3 miles running.  So humid!  I just couldn’t 😉  3 miles was enough.  And, there were many garage sales to visit!  Several neighborhoods were having sales.  I found some pretty good deals.  Highlights were a pretty planter for my patio and a set of really nice silverware for my son’s upcoming apartment at college.

I had a great idea to split one of my hostas and sell it today.  I dug half of it up and it still looked huge!  I dropped them off at my friend’s garage sale and made $15 selling the extra plants.  Oh boy!  I’m not sure that was really worth it, but I’m glad they found a new home.

Fri – 5 miles running.  Again, another struggle-fest of a run!  Phew!  I went to the salon today, which meant we had to go out for date night since my hair was so glamorous.  Not sure why my stylist parted my hair over so far, but I’ll go with it. In retrospect that part really looked odd, but I was happy with the color and it felt wonderful. It was a good date night with burgers and beer!

Sat – 8 miles running, my “long run” of the week.  It was a little less humid this morning, but still, this run did not feel easy!  At least the trail looked pretty.

Sun – 15 miles biking.  But earlier… it was our first trip to Cedar Point!  The park tends to be a bit understaffed at this time of the year so not a lot of rides were running, which makes for long wait lines.  Speaking of which, we entered the line for Top Thrill 2 which is their hot new coaster.  The sign said 60 mins wait time, but after we stood in line for an hour we were only halfway there!  We ended up waiting for 2 ½ hours (!!) but trust me, it was worth it.  It goes forward, then launches you backwards, and then up and over a huge hill.  The ride was amazing.

When we got home there was enough daylight for a bike ride.  It was a nice ending to the week!

Q: What is your favorite pie flavor?

I picked a caramel apple. Yum! Second choice was peanut butter chocolate.

  1. Ooh, pie! Did someone say, “pie?” My favorite is peach, but raspberry is a close second. I love roller coasters! We have Adventureland here in the Des Moines area, but it’s pretty lame compared to “big city” amusement parks. Looks like you’re doing great easing back into your routine. I’m excited to finally get some decent biking miles in…the wind has been relentless here, but it was nice this afternoon (6mph, which felt like almost nothing for my 30-mile ride).

  2. I miss pies! I try to avoid saturated fat to keep my cholesterol down and I feel unwell if I eat too much so that was goodbye pies about 15 years ago now! A lovely week for you, though sorry about the humidity – yuck!

  3. Sounds like a fun week! I know that feeling when every run is a slog- you’ll get through this period. Now on to pie! Caramel apple sounds amazing, but while I don’t think there’s such a thing as a bad pie, I would go with something more chocolate-y. Peanut butter chocolate sounds INCREDIBLE.
By the way I don’t think your hair part looked odd in that photo- it probably only looked odd to you because you’re not used to it.

  4. It’s good to hear that you’re getting in some running miles again post-marathon and feeling good. And yay for getting back on your bike!

You sold part of your divided Hosta at your friend’s yard sale? What a genius move!

I like apple pie, especially if it has vanilla ice cream on top. 😉
