Happy Father’s Day to all of the Dad’s out there. This is the 2nd year I am missing my Dad on this holiday. Thinking about him makes me smile though and I enjoy seeing pictures of him pop up on my iPhone memories. Love ya Dad!! We are celebrating Alan today and told him he wouldn’t have to fix anything or scoop up the cat litter. haha! 🙂 (Hope you had a good day Alan, because I know you are reading this!!) Last week I mentioned that I have 18 weeks until Columbus marathon, but I was corrected by Alan and it was 19 weeks! So I got a bonus week of “doing whatever” and hoping a pain in my hamstring/glute would go away. Spoiler alert – it didn’t go away, but it didn’t stop me either. Running was 27.5 miles this past week and 51 miles of biking. Overall, it’s been a good week!
Mon – 6.25 miles running, gym visit. Rise and shine! Or Run the World, am I right? I used to be an early riser on most days to go for a run, but TBH, without a daily need to get up early (me, only working two day a week now) I have slipped into a habit of staying up later and sleeping in longer. I miss that early workout!! But today, as my husband tries his best to quietly slip out of the house at 5am to meet his running friends, I also woke up and did get out decently early. This also allowed me to get to the gym and be home for a full day of doing whatever I wanted. (don’t be too jealous, it was mostly cleaning up stuff around the house, but still…) Sydney joined us at the gym too. Fun!

We welcomed 5 foster kittens into our house! They are a potpourri of colors. Some are almost big enough for their surgery (getting fixed), some need to gain ½ a pound, and the black one is tiny. We’ll probably have a few of them for 3 weeks and two of them will most likely go back to the Humane Society in two weeks. They are Mocha, Cappuccino, Frappicuno, Latte and Coffee 😉

Tues – elliptical, 10 mile bike ride. In an effort to calm down my still angered hamstring/glute/whatever it is, I used the elliptical for a little bit before work. All feels OK on the elliptical! After work I went out for a short bike ride to get some outdoor time. Everyone needs to get outside every day! And, my office had a food truck (free food!) so I was feeling a bit stuffed from lunch.

Weds – 4 miles running. Oof. This run just felt labored. Was I tired? Injured? All of the above? Maybe. And, yet another treat at work today at an “ice cream party”. Yes please!!

25 mile biking. This was a fun one! I thought we were going to be split into two groups – a fast group (20+ mph) and a slightly slower group (18-20 which was still fast!). But, we all rode as one group, which was nice because with 20 people I didn’t have to pull more than once. However, when Zach and Alan were in front pulling, they were fast!! I struggled and almost dropped. But since it’s technically a “no drop” ride, I had a few mentors who gave me tips on positioning to beat the wind and stay with the group. I finished with an average of 18.6 mph and very happy with that! Phew, that was challenging!

Thurs – Rest day! Only PT exercises and stretching for me today. My watch said my training readiness was only “1 – Poor”, and I agreed. I had a productive day of helping my mom with tasks and then we enjoyed lunch together.

We went to a Farmer’s Market in the evening and that place was packed!

Fri – 7 mile run. Things were feeling pretty good today! I still have a pain, but it’s not an issue when I run. I just realized as I’m typing this that it was Friday the 13th! I got up early again so I dressed in my brightest shorts and shoes to be visible.

I hit the gym early and was home by 9am! Go me. It looks like I am taking a picture of that guy… I am not.

Sat -10 mile long run… on my treadmill! It was a bit rainy outside so I opted for indoors. I have several shows that I wanted to watch on Apple TV anyways, so it all worked out. I finished the series The Studio and started Stick. I highly recommend both shows!
I also went climbing with my kids. Both of the significant others were there, so it was nice to have climbing friends. Zach’s girlfriend is becoming quite the climber. They usually boulder, and I like the ropes.

Sydney’s boyfriend suggested a route for me. He used to work at the gym, so he is a big help to me! However, this route was in a corner and was quite awkward! Although I originally doubted his suggestion, I eventually did make it up which surprised me. Following the orange foot holds looked impossible!!

Sun – 16 miles biking. Happy Father’s Day! My family biked to a diner and had a delicious breakfast in the morning sun. Kudos to my kids for getting on the road at 7:45am to enjoy this meal together before my daughter went to work.

Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!
Finishing up this week with a pic of Sam. He doesn’t know what to do with this group of kittens! They surrounded him and hissed at him! The nerve of them!!

Q: Do you tend to sleep in late when you don’t have a reason to get up and workout early? Or do you just enjoy getting up early so you keep that schedule (on weekends, vacation, etc).
I definitely need to get back in the habit of waking up earlier now that it’s summer!
Nice work this week, despite your hammy/glute pain.
It’s like you have a kitten gang at your house! I’m surprised Sam didn’t swipe at them!
I’m surprised Sam didn’t react at all! He kind of just backed away from them. I don’t think I’ve seen Sam hiss at anything yet (compared to our older cat Luna, who smacks Sam in the face every time he gets close to her 🤣). Kittens are fun but yikes, they sure do poop a lot. I’m over the cat litter scooping already!!
Awh, the kitties are so cute! I love their names 😉 Sorry the glute/hammy is not feeling optimal…I hope that corrects itself soon. I’m an early riser. Even when I don’t “need” to get up early, my sleep-in time seldom goes later than 6:00.
Since my kids sleep in so late I can sometimes sleep in late too, but I am programmed to wake up a bit earlier than my family members. During our camping trip we really crushed our sleeping goals! It’s a nice reset.
So sorry to hear that your hammy/glute is continuing to act up, but it’s good that you can use the elliptical and bike without pain. And speaking of biking, you guys were flying on Wednesday evening!
Oh my goodness, you’ve got kitten cuteness overload at your house! Do you think Sam will warm up to them?
When I showed up at the group ride I informed everyone that I was there to “slow the group down”, which ended up being mostly true despite the ride leader claiming otherwise! 🙂
I think Sam is happier with just one or maybe two kittens to play with. This group is too overwhelming for him, at least right now. It’s nice that the kittens all play together and keep each other company though.
Five kittens! I love it!
I wouldn’t say I enjoy getting up in the morning but a) the earlier I get up the cooler it is and b) when i get up early, it gives me time to get a jump start on the day. I do prefer to go to bed on the earlier side and I also love a good nap if I can get it. It’s all about balance.
10:30 was always my bed time, but with the college kids home my bed time keeps creeping later and later. Zach does have to get up for a job now (7am wake up) so at least he’s on a schedule, but Sydney can just sleep in super late most days so she stays up late. With your hot weather in Florida I’m sure I would be up early to workout!!
Those kitties are so cute! Well done on a lovely varied week. What are the little square tags on some of the holds on the climbing wall?
The square tags have two purposes – they tell you the rating of the climb route (easy, hard, etc) and it shows where you are supposed to place your hands when you start the route. You are supposed to follow the same color holds up the route, and start with your hands and feet at certain spots. Of course, you can do whatever you want while climbing (use a different color), but to properly complete the route “following the rules”, you gotta use the same colors! Routes are typically scored using a number systems (ie, 5.7) but this gym uses tree leaves! The number of points on the leaf shows how difficult it is. I am up to a 2 leaf now, and I think it goes up to 5? Even some of the “easy” routes tend to be hard sometime. The holds get smaller so you have to have a lot of grip strength for the hard ones.
Thank you!
I was going to say the kittens are so cute, but now I’m indignant that they surrounded Sam and hissed at him! Poor Sam! (I see the orange tabby was hanging back- good boy.)
To answer your question- if I can sleep in, I will! The problem is, it’s so hot here now, if i’m going to run outside I have to get up early. Hey, does your hamstring feel better on the treadmill? Mine seems to. My pain is still hanging on- the injury that would not die.
It looks like you had a fun week!
My pain seems to just be when I’m moving my leg across my body, so I do feel it when I roll from side to side in bed! That’s how I know it’s still there. It does feel tight when I do hamstring stretches too. As long as I take it easy running (nothing fast!) I think it’s manageable and hopefully it will eventually go away. I mean, it has to, right??
I was shocked those kittens were ganging up on Sam! He just wanted to play.
That last episode of the Studio was hilarious….I will check out the Stick, I need something new! Those kittens! what a handful.
I used to run way earlier in the US, but since the UK doesn’t start as early, I have adjusted slightly! No complaints although its getting hot this week.
Glad the hammie is doing okay!
The hammie is doing “well enough”… still annoying in situations, but not in the important situations of running and cycling 🙂 What time do you start work? Is it like Emily in Paris where people seem to roll in at 10am??
Yes, the Studio was good!! So many actors in it. Dave Franco was especially funny!
