This is the first week of training for the Columbus marathon on October 19th. But, I still haven’t picked out a training plan, so I’m kind of just combining two of them right now. It’s all good, I’m getting my miles in. This week I ran 30 miles and biked 75+ (by the time Sunday ends, should be at least there).
Mon – 6 miles running (AM). Up and at ‘em for an early run. Perfect morning for it too. Since I haven’t really figured out my training plan, this is a good starting point.

Metroparks Monday – 2 miles running (PM) “I like Metroparks Mondays!” my son declared as we drove home. Sure, they are hot nights, but they also include seeing our running friends, getting a few miles in, having a cookout (1st week of the month) and each month they also have shoe demos! Today was Mizuno. We tried out the Neo Vista 2. It’s a crazy cushioned shoe with a plate. WOW. Like running on bouncy marshmallows! Then we tried out the Neo Zen. I should have started with the Zen because it was more of what I expected to be a daily shoe, and not specifically a race shoe (even though the shoe rep said the Vista could be used for daily runs… but who wants to use up their $200 shoes on a daily runs??). I tried to keep my run short and easy because just two weeks ago I injured myself by doing a double run. I do want to encourage my son to keep running, so I keep showing up 🙂

Tues – 30 miles biking. A commute to and from the Ladies Ride on a hot sweaty night! Luckily we don’t bike hard on this social ride, but my husband and son did have a challenging group ride. It was a sweatfest with 84 degrees. We enjoyed pizza afterwards and everyone slept well after these workouts.

Weds – Rest day. Only cardio was a walk after work.
Thurs – 6 mile run. My training plan would have some sort of speedwork today, but I’m holding off on that until that annoying glute pain is gone. It was sweaty and this felt like a bit of a slog!

Evening… 26 miles biking. Group ride night!! It rained all day, and then it was beautiful out. We were not going to go, but I couldn’t resist when I stepped outside. I’m not a regular to this Thursday night group, but it could happen this year. There are 7 pace groups and our choice of 18-20 mph was the 5th group! Yes, there are 4 groups faster that this, and the top one rode at 25.5 average mph. Gulp. Ours ended up with 17.5 mph which felt good for me, slightly challenging when I pulled, and was an easy ride for Alan and Zach. A win for everyone! This group was also easy to ride with and communicated well, which is necessary. Item of note – one guy in our group was 87 years old!! He bikes a lot, very impressive.

Fri – 12 miles, long run! After looking at the very hot forecast coming up for the weekend, my husband and I both made a rash decision to do a long run early this morning. Despite my less than stellar run yesterday, this run turned out decent enough! And, I knocked it out before WFH day. What a great feeling to have the whole weekend ahead and not worry about a super sweaty long run.

I also got to go climbing with the kids. It was a great workout. I conquered another route which was quite challenging. It’s the green holds in this picture. Those top holds were a doozy!!

To celebrate summer’s arrival we took a trip to the ice cream parlor. We drove the Mustang, which doesn’t get out of the garage much.

Sat – Rest day! Most of the day was spent lounging around the pool. Even though it’s hot outside, the 80 degree water was quite “refreshing”.

Sun – I’ll go for a short run and a long bike ride. Then, more pool time. Crazy that the next week has 95+ temps forecasted for multiple days!! Yikes.
Fun pic of the week… one of the fosters watching me!

The kittens are doing well and may be heading back to the shelter on Monday. Moo did get adopted with another kitten. I’m so happy for them!

Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!
Q: Do you have a heat wave heading to your area, or are you in one right now?
Summer is here for sure!!
Aw, that is a cute picture of the kitty looking out the window!
I used to be a Mizuno gal, but then they started making their shoes more narrow — and I don’t really have wide feet. I’m not sure I’d like a marshmallow feel, but maybe I should try it before I knock it.
Good luck choosing a training plan — looks like you’re off to a good start regardless.
Those cushy shoes were crazy!! I’d love a pair if they were free, but I don’t think I would buy a pair. I think they would have limited uses. Such a change from the Mizunos I had a long time agao. But, my son loved them, probably because he’s never run in a pair of race shoes. My husband didn’t care for them at all! I think the Neo Zen model were quite nice for regular running and racing probably too.
Looks like your training is off to a great start with a nice mix of cycling miles as well. Well, 80 degrees would be heaven-we are going to be over 100 a few days this week! No thank you 🙂
Looks like we all get to roast a bit in the US! Our pool will be getting a lot of use.
We havre that same heat wave in Iowa right now. Yikes, yesterday’s ride didn’t feel like too much work at the time, but every time we stopped at one of the trailside “refueling” places, we were exhausted. But, I’m planning on heading back out and doing it all over again today 😉 That’s so great all the fostering you do for those kittens! That must be such a great feeling when you get word of their adoptions!
It is so great to see the process come full circle and see who adopted our fosters. We are picking up another litter tomorrow!
We’re having a heat wave too! Im so grateful for lots of AC and the fact that I’m a morning runner. Hehe I love the kitty spying on you in the window — so cute!
Ugh on this heat! Enjoy the pool time with your kids!
I ran for a while in Mizunos after Asics changed the Gel Nimbus. I never loved Mizunos–I found them too stiff, so I tried Brooks. And you know the ending to that story, lol!
There’s a guy I see on the bike path quite often–he’s 85 years old and rides a fat tire bike. Older athletes are so inspiring!
Stay cool!
You guys are flying on those Thursday night rides, and how fun that your son joins you for the rides and the Monday evening runs.
Awww, I hope all of the new kittens find nice homes like Moo did!
This all sounds fun! I love the thought of you knocking out that long run on Friday, celebrating with ice cream, and then lounging by the pool on Saturday! I need a day like that.
Glad the kitties are doing so well. I hope you get more when they leave! (You do all the work- I just enjoy looking at the photos : )
We have the “heat dome” coming. It’s going to be awful!
Love the ice cream and mustang! How fun!
And yay for the kittens!
Love that you are encouraging running in your kiddos. It never took for mine, but I hope it does for yours!
Mizunos were my first running shoes and I really did like them. Ill have to try them again the next time I get fitted.
