Last Sunday I mentioned I had a 30 mile bike ride on tap. Instead there was a bike mishap! The battery in my shifter needed to be replaced and in the process something happened to my brakes. It’s a long story, but the end result is that my son (former bike tech) and my daughter’s boyfriend (current bike tech) worked for hours on it and couldn’t figure out what is wrong with it. Ughhhhhhh. It went to the shop for an appointment on Wednesday. We made some great progress on our yard and we are just waiting for the temps to catch up to speed that it’s now June! Let summer begin! Miles run this week: 27, miles biked this week: 55 (woohoo!). Here’s what went down…
Mon – 6.5 miles running. Memorial Day! 58 degrees, nice morning for a run! And look, another day with me in a just a sports bra. But seriously, reminder to myself: if the temps are above 55 I need to just wear a tank top. Per usual, I ditched my short sleeve shirt a few miles into this run.

Then we went bird watching! I’m not a skilled bird watcher by any means, but I can use Merlin and my son has a long lens on his camera, so we went to a park in search of birds. There were lots of birds identified in Merlin and we did see a few of them. Top finds were the bald eagle nest (an adult and two juveniles)

A snapping turtle was laying by the boardwalk and we think she was laying eggs. The visitor center had a moat and we saw several water snakes. It was mesmerizing to watch them slither through the water!
The rest of my day was spent in the garden. I pulled all of the weeds and planted my veggie garden and flowers. This is the before and after pictures of my garden! It was a lot of work but I was feeling very accomplished afterwards. And sore.

Tues – Run, walk, bike day. The combination of yard work and staying up a little late hit me hard this morning. If I could have snoozed my watch alarm I would have. But nope, a run was on the schedule so I went outside to do it. Only managed 2.38 miles in my allotted time, and that was fine! I had very heavy legs! At lunch I enjoyed a 2 mile park walk with my Mom.
14 miles biking. The weekly Ladies Ride is back!! This summer group is a fun social ride. I wasn’t going to go when the weather was dreary looking, but an hour before the ride the sun came out and I was motivated to go! I’m glad I went. A lot of people were there. It’s always fun to catch up with my friends on this ride. Afterwards we enjoyed some snacks and a drink. I took a look around to see if my bike was on a rack somewhere, but apparently it is in the back. Maybe that’s where they keep the challenging projects. LOL

Weds – Rest day!! My bike was ready at the shop and I was happy to be reunited with it. The tech said it just needed a brake flush so that was great news.

Thurs – 5 mile run. Today’s observation – some people are clueless. This recycling tote was full of boxes which were not flattened. If I were the recycling person I would have left it there to make a point. Geeeez.

Then it was time for fun! We took a trip to Cedar Point, without our kids. So sad they had to work. haha! It’s so weird to be wearing a jacket at the end of May. It was nice weather though, no complaints. We got to see the new Siren’s Curse coaster being tested out. Wow.

Fri – 3 mile run. Rise and shine, and time to decorate for my daughter’s birthday! I can’t believe she’s 22! We went to Starbucks to get her birthday drink.

11 mile bike ride. The birthday girl requested a bike ride with us. JOY!! It was a tad chilly for biking (60) and I should have worn a jacket, but it was so nice to ride with her. She also requested the cookie dough birthday cake. I’m a big fan of it, but it is a bit rich and a little slice goes a long way!

She got an espresso machine for her birthday. We have been learning so much about coffee!

And then it happened. I was doing yardwork and had taken my shoes off. I walked through the grass and felt a sharp pain in the arch of my foot. YIKES!!!!! It could have been a thorn from some plant (I never looked for it) but my guess is that a bee stung me. Do you know how much it hurts to be stung in the tender, sensitive part of your foot?? Trust me, it’s a lot. My foot was swollen and quite itchy as a result. Sorry for the feet picture!!

Sat – 10 miles, long run! The weather was a bit chilly (52!) but it felt good. My foot was swollen but running actually felt nice in a weird way because the shoe rubbed against my feet which relieved the itchy feeling! We thought about going on a bike ride, but it with the chilly temps we decided to postpone it and spent most of the the day running errands #adulting

Sun – The 30 mile bike ride finally happened! We waited until it was 65 degrees which felt OK 🙂. My foot still doesn’t look normal, but it’s a little better and hopefully everything will be flushed out in another day? Today’s feeling is more pain in the area of the bite and a little less swelling. Ugh.
Monday we will say “bye” to Moo! We will be sad to see her go, but it’s time for her to continue her journey to a forever home. Sam will be most sad because he has been having the best time wrestling with her!

Q: Are you allergic to bee stings?
I don’t think I am, but I do have a history of rashes and other itchy things so the reaction I’m having seems to be normal, I guess?
Oh my gosh, that bee sting sounds horrible! I hate needles, and bee strings feel much like a nasty shot, so I’m almost fainting at the thought of what you must havre experienced. OUCH! You got a lot of work done on your garden!
You’re exactly right – I almost fainted just thinking about having to pull something out of my foot, but luckily nothing was stuck in the spot where the bite was! Also, our pool is quite cold so I immediately put my foot in the water and that helped quite a bit.
Oooh that foot looks terrible! I worried about you when I read the post title and I’m so glad it was an insect bite and not an injury, and that running made it feel better!
That’s a lovely photo of Miss Moo.
OMG your foot! Wow can’t believe you ran on that! You had quite the busy week. Happy bday to your daughter. I love that you all love Cedar Point so much 🙂
My foot was sooooo itchy! Thankfully that’s all gone now. What a relief!
Wow, your garden looks amazing! It’s unbelievable how quickly weeds can take over. Yikes on your bee sting. Glad it’s gradually feeling better and you were able to get your run in on Saturday. Yay for getting your bike fixed and for starting up the women’s rides again.
Happy belated birthday to your daughter! And goodbye to Miss Moo – I hope she finds the perfect forever home!
Bye, Moo! She is so cute.
Ouch! Your foot! I can’t believe you ran on that! I don’t think I’m allergic exactly … but I think I’ve only been stung by one hornet in my life. Fire ants will get me every time.
I’m s glad your bike was able to be fixed! That’s so frustrating when things stop working like that.
Fire ants are nasty!! So glad we don’t have those here. I’m sure I would be a target for them 🤣
Owww! I wonder if it was a horsefly – did it blister around the sting site? I blow up with those – sometimes I panic and have to draw a line around the swelling to make sure I’m not going to go wrong somehow! Little Moo, such a cute picture! I bet she finds her forever home really quickly!
