Happy Tuesday everyone! My weekend just flew by, and I didn’t even get to mention what I’ve been up to. But, without further ado, here’s how training has been going. I would say the word of the week is: frustrating! Argggggggh!
Weekly Stats:
- Training for: Owens Corning Half marathon @ the Glass City Marathon
- Days of running: 3
- Miles run: 25.4
- Gym visits: 2
Monday
Unscheduled rest day – no running today 🙁 Checking to see if resting hammies helps me. I did 30 mins on the eliptical though, and was *shocked* when my glutes/hamstrings were all tight after I got off. Did not expect that, didn’t feel like I was even working out during it. Boooooo!
Tuesday
Unscheduled rest day – no running today 🙁 I called for a PT appointment today, and as the day progressed, my hammies decided they were done being angry and I was feeling pretty good by the end of the day. Go figure!
Wednesday
5 miles AM, 3.5 miles Dave’s Training PM- I had to run just to see how I’d feel for my PT appt. Suprisingly, I didn’t feel bad really at all after the run. PT eval went fine. At night I ran intervals at the training group and I actually was running very speedy! Heck, I saw a 7:15 pace come up on my watch. Dang!!
Thursday
4 miles AM – I wanted to continue with my “wake up early and run” trend, so I did 4 miles on the treadmill. VERY SLOW. Walked for a warm up, and then ran. My hammies were definitely angry about the speedwork last night, but I feel like this slow run helped them. And finally, a nice low HR zone run!
Friday
Scheduled rest day!! Gotta keep fresh legs for racing on Saturday! Went to the gym for a well needed arm workout. It’s been too long! This sunrise on my way to the gym made me sad I was not out running and enjoying it!
Saturday
2 races – 9.5 miles & 3 miles – Morning race was supposed to be a 15K (9.3 miles), but it was actually 9.5 miles. I will put a race recap later this week, but as a big spoiler, I got 2nd in my age group (a total surprise!). The afternoon race was a fun 3 mile Shamrock Shuffle. Here’s a picture of me (white Ambassador jacket on)… I have an orange mustache on. Yes, I’m Irish!
Sunday
Rest day!! – Holy moly, my hamstrings were really freaking unhappy about the racing yesterday. Sore, sore, and sore is the only way to describe my hammies and glutes. Yikes!!! Rest was really the only option today! 🙁
Well, that wraps up my weekly workouts!
You can find my other Training Tuesday recaps here! Linking up with Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC again this week. (there are a lot of fun blogs linked there in case you are looking for something new to read!)

Q: Did you run any St. Patrick’s themed races in your area?
There were several in Toledo. The race I went to had 1,200 people signed up!
Q: Have you ever run a 15K?
It was my first. Instant PR for me!!
Congrats on second in your age group! That’s so exciting!
I’m sorry that your hammies have been so angry lately. Was the PT able to give you any advice/tips for managing them? I hope they’re feeling better soon!
That age group award was quite a surprise for sure! I didn’t get a whole lot from my first PT visit, which was the evaluation, so I’m hoping for a game plan at my visit this week! It’s been challenging 🙁
Did you look into a different brand of shoe? I am surprised that you are heel striking in Newtons. When I ran in them, I was TOO far up on my forefoot and ended up with a stress fracture. I highly recommend the HOKAs, dead lifts, squats, and foam rolling. Those all helped me with my hamstring issue.
My PT guy actually said “no HOKAs”! I didn’t even try those one. I think he thought it was a bit overkill for the cushioning for me.
congrats on your age group prize! I hope those hammies are doing better!
Awesome! Congrats on placing second in your AG! I need to set up my heart rate zones in my Garmin so I can get similar data. Pretty cool!
Thanks! I think figuring out your max HR is a little tricky, but I just used my max HR from some tough runs I did. If nothing else it’s fun to look at the graphs!!
