I have a fun recap of my running this week.  Despite being on vacation in Mexico the past week, the running got done!  Exercise never takes a vacation, but my diet does. This is proof that I let myself have fun when given a choice of desserts… take all three.  And did you know that dessert is perfectly acceptable after every meal at an all inclusive resort? True story.

I tend to stay on the same schedule when traveling – waking up early.  I generally get about 7 – 7.5 hours of sleep and that’s it. I’m not much for sleeping in.  So in Mexico when we’re tired from a full day of swimming, soaking up the sun, and drinking, my bed is calling me around 9:30 – 10pm!  That means wakeup is around 5:30 or 6:00am. The perfect time for a run, to avoid the hot Mexican sun!

  • Miles run: 20, I think

Monday – 5 miles, run with Alan.  It has been a long time since I’ve run with Alan, so this was nice “together” time for us.  Side note, those Goodr glasses look pretty awesome at the beach, no?

I also swam some circles around the pool.  My Garmin was way off on the distance though, so who knows how far I swam, but it was good exercise!  I also swam some laps with my son. Expect him to be a triathlete in the future because he’s quite good at swimming!

Tuesday – Rest!

Wednesday – 4 miles, with Alan.  We saw the a beautiful sunrise.

IMG_0611

We also saved a bat!  This poor little scared bat had fallen into one of the pools and couldn’t get out.   He was cute!

Kayaking – 30 mins.  Phew, kayaking is tiring.  For some reason my legs get more tired (stabilizing my body?) than my arms.

Thursday – 3.5 miles with Alan.  We saw some adorable babies on our run.  We saw many coatis. The babies are beyond cuddly looking.  I wanted to give them all hugs!

IMG_0709

Flamingos were also seen around the resort.

Run another 1 mile.  Ran with Sydney to the resort gym.

IMG_0614

She was very excited to go the gym. She is just old enough to get in to the gym this year.  I guess it lived up to her expectations because we went back a 2nd day too.

IMG_0723

Saw a peacock on the way to the gym.

IMG_0719

Oh, and we stopped at the “Star Cafe” for iced coffee drinks after the gym session.  A guy named Jose was the barista and he made the most delicious drinks for us. He was a very funny guy.  Our favorite worker at the resort!

Swimming in the afternoon again. 400m  Considered this my Open Water Swim, because I had to avoid people drinking in the pool, and throwing footballs (not shown in this picture).  I’m imagining this will be just like my triathlon swim. HA!

Friday – 4.4 miles with Alan.  Saw several peacocks with babies today.

IMG_0759

Run 2 miles with Sydney.  She said “we’re only going 2 miles, right?”.  Yep, it’s hot and humid out there!

IMG_0770

MORE resort pool swimming in the afternoon.  I’m getting to be a pro at swimming now. (not really)

IMG_0547

All it all, it was a pretty active week!  I don’t feel one bit of guilt for all the food I indulged in, drinks I drank, and I even gained 2 pounds!  YOLO, right 🙂

Q:  Have you ever seen coati?

Q:  If you saw a bat in the water, would you save him?

I know some people are weirded out by bats, but I thought he was so cute.  I just didn’t touch him.  Didn’t want to get bit!

Q:  Do you like kayaking?

  1. I love how you YOLO and indulge on vacation. 2 lbs is nothing. You’ll sweat that out in no time. It looks like you had a fun and relaxing trip! Way different from your epic road trip earlier this summer!

Paul and I are trying to have a “relaxing” vacation too! We are leaving for Cape Cod today. No mountains to hike, everything is just going to be slow and relaxing. We’ll see how I do. I never went on a vacation like this before! We’re even staying at a bed and breakfast, which just screams “slowwwww down” to me! I am bringing my running shoes AND that bottle of Reisling!

Yes I would save a bat! 🙂 You knew the answer to that one.

    1. That will be a different vacation – sometimes it is hard to slow down! I have never stayed at a B n B. I’m looking forward to seeing a recap of your trip!

  2. It looks like you had a really fun and active trip! I am the same way on vacation…I keep to my usual schedule for the most part and still get in some workouts but I don’t feel bad at all indulging. Its cool how many animals you saw during your workouts!

  3. I gained like 3lbs on my cruise and lost 2 of em by the next day. A lot of times it is water retention from salty food I think, but it was hard going from eating dessert after *every meal* (including breakfast) back to one dessert per day. Glad you had a fun and active trip with lots of running, swimming, and gymming!

  4. I miss the early morning runs along the beach already! Was great to run with you all week again. Especially when we got to see all the cool wildlife. 🙂
