Let’s get into the stats… it’s 16 weeks until the Berlin Marathon. I’m 7 weeks into a [potentially] 12 week recovery period for my injury. I set a goal of biking 125 miles this week and I completed that with 126 miles. Woohoo! I have enjoyed my biking this week. Nothing too far or crazy, but just a lot of time on the road.
My son now has completed week 1 of his job in the Rocky Mountain Youth Corps. We dropped him off crazy early at the airport. His girlfriend will be working the same job, but with a different crew so they really won’t see each other this summer, but they will both be having great adventures! Typically they work for 4 days and have 3 days to explore. This week he went to Utah at Dinosaur National Monument. I’ve talked to him a few times already so I’m very happy about that.
Mon – 32 miles cycling. After a big nap upon returning home from the airport at 6am, I went for a bike ride. Did you know it was World Bicycle Day today?? Garmin told me, but I didn’t know either! Is that different than “World Cycling Day”? Hmmmmmm
1 mile walking – A social event at the park. It’s Metropark Monday! Dave’s Running shop hosts a weekly run at our parks and tonight was a potluck. Count my family in for free food and hanging out with friends! Our daughter ran a 5K and we walked a little. Lots of desserts were eaten and mosquitoes were killed.
Tues – 28 miles cycling. It’s Ladies Ride Night! I rode over to the group ride from my house (6.25 miles each way) and then cruised along with the group (16 miles). I encouraged my friend to join us so it was nice to catch up with her on the ride.
Weds – Happy Global Running Day! I was excited when I received the Garmin badge this morning by walking on my treadmill, which is a “treadmill run” activity on my watch. However, when I switched this activity over to a “walk”, my Garmin badge was taken away. Rude!!
I was a course marshal for our Toledo Roadrunners event. I killed some time by walking around my location and officially earned my Garmin badge again. Take that Garmin!! LOL
Thurs – 30 miles biking. I got to enjoy my morning with a ride. I had a very busy schedule planned so this was nice “me time”. I got up to 30 mph going down a hill. Wheeeee!
Rest of the day… went to the zoo with my Mom, working a job (being IT super hero haha!), and glass studio. The zoo trip and lunch with my Mom was very nice. The baby elephant is still a super cutie and it’s so interesting to watch it use its trunk.
My daughter joined me at the glass studio. We made birds! I’d like to say I have skills with glass, but honestly I don’t. I struggled on some of the shapes and so it will be interesting to see the end result! The instructor was awesome and hopefully helped me correct the issue I had. Unless you have a bit of experience working with glass I think it’s difficult to know how hard you should pinch/pull the glass. Is it very liquid, or really stiff?? It certainly does have both properties based on the temperature and I didn’t use enough effort when shaping my bird’s tail feathers. Oh well, it’s “art”, right?? We will get them back next week. I can’t wait to see them!
Fri – Rest day! Can you believe I went to the gym at 7pm on a Friday night? It’s crazy, and true! I did like the lack of people there.
Sat – 18 miles cycling. Nothing new here, just a nice ride in the morning sunshine.
Fun thing today – I went shopping with my daughter to a new Brandy Melville store. I had never heard of this place before. On the way my daughter tells me that they only sell one size. What the what?? What a super odd concept. Luckily for me, I fit the size they sell! When I saw the store I thought for sure this was a cult. The store was really busy and the girls working there all looked liked my daughter! It was so odd. But I guess I drank the KoolAid because I bought some stuff there.
Sun – 17 miles cycling, and my goal of 125 miles for the week has been met! My husband rode with me and we got to see the cows at our metropark (used for grazing the land).
I spent the rest of the day pulling weeds and working on the yard. It might look like a lot in these “before” and “after” pictures, but it took a while. My hostas are ginormous. I’m not sure what to do with them and I hate just throwing them away because they are too large. Maybe I’ll end up posting them on our “Buy Nothing” community page. Someone might need them! This is just phase one of the work in this area.
Here’s what you might be here for… meet our new kitten! And when I say “our” kitten, I mean this lucky kitten is now in his forever home, which is our house! Yes we adopted one of our foster kittens. His name is Sam. Isn’t he the cutest! He’s a very vocal kitten, and of course very full of energy. It was hard to get a picture of him standing in one place.
On a sad note, the littlest kitten from our last litter passed away this week. We don’t know what was wrong with her, but for some reason she did not grow. She was half the size of the other kittens despite having a good appetite. Rest in peace Tiny 😢
Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!
Q: Have you ever heard of Brandy Melville?
Q: Did you participate in Global Running Day (or maybe World Bicycle Day 😂)?
I had seen World Bike Day was coming up, via our ongoing “message center” at work, so I was prepared, LOL. My Garmin kept busy last week with all the badges up for grabs. I admit they are fun to have as incentives, and when a few unknown ones pop up, that’s always a nice surprise 😉 Oh, little Sam is a cutie!
I don’t look at the Garmin badges very often, so they are always a surprise for me! Especially now that I am just a one sport lady. Good thing you’ve to the work people to help you out! That’s a good group to be working with. My immediate co workers could mostly just update me on the latest John Wick movie or Pokemon Go. LOL!!
Great that you can enjoy biking and walking as you recover. Hope you can run in a few weeks.
Love the zoo but haven’t been in years. I’ve watched glass blowing. I heard it is hard.
Congrats on the new kitty. How cute!!!
Stay turned. We are getting a 2nd tuxedo.
I think I will try a slow jog/walk this week and see how things are going. I don’t want to rush anything, but I’m intrigued! Another tuxedo? Very exciting! My mom said I should have kept the other Siamese too. I think that would be a bit much for us!!
I have not heard of Brandy Melville but I am now intrigued. That’s a lot of cycling miles! Sounds like you are finding a great way to stay active while taking off running. Your son’s summer job sounds fab!
As it turns out, the target market for Brandy Melville is 15-24 yr olds and that’s the average size. So good news, I’m small. Odd news, I will be a 50 yr old wearing teen clothes. haha!! Luckily there were a couple of tshirts that weren’t cropped. And the earrings fit everyone 😉
OMG SAM!!!!! (You knew I would be super excited about that!) He’s the cutest cutie in the world! I’m very sad about Tiny though- being a kitten foster mom must be hard.
Sounds like you are keeping busy and happy while waiting for your injury to heal. That is a LOT of cycling. And I’m laughing about Garmin taking away your badge- talk about adding insult to injury.
i have never heard of Brandy Melville! That is an odd concept, but awesome if you’re the right size! And… I’m intrigued about this glass studio. I’m going to see if we have one around here- my son is trying to think of interesting things to do this summer and one of his friends is very artistic. Sounds like something challenging that they would like.
Tiny was a mystery, like a bonsai kitten who didn’t get any bigger. Very sad! With his siblings gone, Sam now thinks we are big cats who he wants to attack. haha!
Glass work is very interesting! You just never know what it’s going to look like because it’s always red hot (and colored orange) during the process. I picked a color last minute. We shall see if it was a good one!
Wowza, you had a lot of cycling miles!! I may need to hop on my bike if my legs continue to rebel against running much longer!
That’s so sad about the kitty! What do you with them when they pass?
Your glass work experience sounds fun. As i was reading about it, I was thinking that I would have some crazy looking structure!
We have a little funeral for the kittens and bury them in our yard. We could send them back to the Humane Society but would rather do that. Sad that it has to happen to any of the kittens, and this was one a very rare and mysterious issue!
Sam is an absolute cutie! Congrats on being a foster fail!
You got in a lot of good rides last week! I had no idea about World Bicycle Day on Monday until the following day when Kim texted to see if I’d knew about it. I was bummed because I’d ridden on Sunday and was on my ride when I got the text. I’m adding it to my calendar for next year!
I’m so thankful cycling has agreed with me. I really need to get out and enjoy the fresh air each day and get exercise!
Oh gosh poor Tiny…that is so hard. You are a good person with these fosters, as it must be really emotional.
But congrats on Sam! What a sweetie!!
You are staying very active while you nurse that injury! Sending you healing vibes…better to full recoup so you can do Berlin!!
I may be Googling “return to running marathon plans” each day… but for the most part I am just trying to let the process take it’s time. And planning my European trip has taken up every waking moment when I’m not working or cycling, so there’s that. LOL!
First of all, welcome home, Sam! What a cutie. I’m so sorry about Tiny. That’s so sad 🙁
What a cool job for your son! I would love for A to do something like that – he’s way more wrapped up in band than Scouts right now, so, maybe in a few years.
Great week for you! Lots of workouts and we love to see it. I did run on Global Running Day, and it was great.
I have heard of Brandy melville, but I’m pretty sure I do NOT fit their one size. I think there was a documentary about that store, recently, but I might be confusing it with something else.
Yes – Keep Rocky Mountain Youth Corps in mind when A is 18! That’s the minimum age. I think the summer after freshman college year is perfect timing. Not getting ready for college, and not working on an internship or “serious job” quite yet.
Brandy Melville is so super odd. You are right, there was a documentary about it but I haven’t seen it. It’s a cult I tell you!! 😉
