This is week 3 of my training plan for the Columbus marathon. My workouts were pretty decent despite the ongoing heat. I biked 57 miles this week and ran 31 miles. I still have piriformis pain and I’ve been doing some exercises each day. All in all it was a decent week with no complaints! We had a lot of pool time and went to two firework shows. Here’s what went down…

Mon  – 5 mile run in the morning, followed by a gym visit.  On a night walk we found the friendly neighborhood cat just chilling in the middle of the road!  He’s so crazy.  We moved him so he would be safe.

Tues – 5 mile run.  The forecast showed rain, but my highly trained eyes looked outside and didn’t see any clouds.  Therefore, I ventured out.  Well hello, the rain started!  It was pretty brief and just sprinkles so all was good.

30 miles, Ladies group ride.  This ride includes biking over to the ride location.  We had another big group of ladies and the commute ride was with Alan and Zach.

Weds – 11 miles biking.  Can you believe it was actually “chilly” on this morning ride??  It was 65 degrees and I wore arm sleeves!  Too bad it wasn’t a running day, but it was nice to enjoy a ride on the quiet roads.

By lunch time it was toasty again.  My aunt and uncle are visiting from out of town, so I met up with my mom and aunt for a park walk today.

We watched fireworks tonight. I am a big fan of fireworks!

Thurs – 6 miles, tempo run!  This run had mid miles 2-5 at an increased effort.  I’m not going to say “race pace” because I’m not even sure what that will be, but I did run faster.  In fact, three out of the four faster miles had an 8:xx, which made me pretty happy about the result!  Did I mention that we have an espresso machine and milk frother until my daughter goes back to college, so I get to make yummy drinks at home?  What a nice treat after my workouts.

We spent 4 hours driving Sydney to the airport.  She left today for Europe with her boyfriend!!  I’m so excited for them.  They are going to Ireland and France.  How fun!

At night we went to see another local fireworks show.  We had good seats down by the river which gave us a great view.

Fri – 3 mile run, and pool day!  Happy 4th of July!

Originally we had talked about going to a mountain bike trail, but after my sweaty run we decided that biking in 90 degree weather was not going to be enjoyable, so the rest of the day was spent hanging out by the pool.

Sat – 12 miles long run.  This run wiped me out!!  Very humid and sweaty.  The last few miles were run/walk to get it done.  And I did, long run done!!

No rest for the wicked – we biked to brunch, which was 16 miles round trip.  Phew, that was also hard on tired legs and in the heat. It was delicious though!

Other highlights of the day included more pool time and a late night walk to get ice cream.

Sun – Will be biking and watching more Tour de France!

Need some more inspiration? I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Check out all of the fun blogs there!

Several of our former fosters were adopted last week. Here is a priceless adoption picture. Such attitude! haha

Q: Have you seen any of the Tour de France?

There have been some interesting crashes already on stage 1!

Q: Did you go watch fireworks?

  1. Nice week, Lisa, with a lot of activity! As you saw, I took my mountain bike on a 30-mile ride on July 4th…oof! That was tough in the heat! My backyard is Ike a front row seat to the neighbors (across the street) and their extensive fireworks show. My dog was not a fan, but he managed with me cuddling him (from inside the house).

    1. Our neighbor across the street did light up some pretty big fireworks on the 4th, but the show was quickly shut down another neighbor who lived close to them. Wish I could have completely heard that conversation because the small bits I could hear sounded pretty interesting!! 😮 (probably awkward relationship there now 🤣)

  2. Sounds like you had a great week in spite of the lingering piriformis pain (I guess it’s not too bad, since you’re doing plenty of running!) Interesting that you saw fireworks on the 2nd and 3rd but not the 4th. Here, the big shows are all on the 4th. I don’t go anymore- it’s waaaay too hot and crowded for me. But I could see fireworks from my living room window- a couple of our neighbors put on their own shows.
Latte! I’m not surprised he (she?) got adopted. Such a cutie.

    1. The main city fireworks are on the 4th, but I’m not a fan of congested city driving so we haven’t gone there in years. Our local fireworks are spaced out which is good because Sydney was a bit bummed she potentially would miss out on fireworks due to her trip. In the end it all worked out and she joined us!

  3. Nice job running in the heat! How nice that your daughter is going to Ireland! Where is she going? She’ll get some nice weather as it looks on the forecast.
Isn’t it great to have an espresso machine? I couldn’t live without one! Or, at least I wouldn’t be drinking much coffee at home without one!

    1. They stayed in Dublin. Took a trip out to the Cliffs of Moher with a tour group. She also did a day trip to Howth. Just a few days in Ireland and now she’s in France!

  4. Great job with all the heat! How fun to go to Ireland -we went there last year and it’s a great place to visit! My husband loves his espresso machine – I got it for him for Father’s Day a few years ago!

    1. The espresso machine was my daughter’s birthday present, so sadly it will be going with her back to college. Back to k cups for me! But I did buy the milk frother so I can jazz up my drinks!

  5. The heat over the last couple of weeks was ridiculous! Great job running in it. I’ve just been getting out really early before the sun gets too high in the sky.

We used to go to the fireworks when the boys were little, but it just gets too crowded around here. There are plenty of fireworks in our neighborhood–people go all out–so we enjoy staying home!

  6. We are currently exploring new places to live when A graduates and moves out and honestly, your area seems so perfect with group runs and rides, great little events, etc.

I don’t like fireworks at all. They scare the dogs, and while they are pretty, I think drone shows can be just as cool without being as scary to the animals.

    1. We do have quite an active community here! A little bit of drama since we now have 3 running shops competing for our business 😝 The more the merrier I think! A strong cycling community too. Always something to do!
Sam was freaked out by the fireworks last night. And hello people, it’s July 8th. You can stop the backyard fireworks now!

  7. Awesome week! Looks like so much fun. Well done on that tempo! Esp in the heat, yowsa!

what a silly cat- hopefully he is smart enough to move if a car is coming!!

What a big trip for your daughter and her bf- Europe together! What a great bonding adventure for them!
