This weekly recap will be pretty simple. I can sum it up in three words – “I was sick”. When I woke up on Tuesday I could tell something wasn’t quite right. It wasn’t a “rundown sore throat” kind of thing, it was something in my chest. But I wasn’t sure what it was. Until Weds, then I was achy, and down on the couch for most of the week. You know it’s bad when you get emails like this….

- Training for: Glass City Half Marathon & Relay, April 22nd.
- Miles run last week: 5.5 miles
- Cross training: Bike, 6.5 miles
The scoop!…..
Monday – Rest day. Did full PT exercises.
Tuesday – Cross training, 6.5 miles biking with the family. Even though I was not feeling quite right, I didn’t want to miss out on the beautiful, unseasonably nice day. I said “YES!” to a bike ride with my family after work.

Then… group run night! 4 miles, 9:49 pace. I still wasn’t feeling the greatest, but it was a Moms Run This Town group run night, so I didn’t want to miss out! The pace felt good, the conversations were flowing, and great times were had. We had a big crowd. See my new headlamp? I paid $2.50 for that beauty! A super special deal on Amazon. It lights up around the side, and the headlamp is really bright!

Since it was February still, we had a “love” themed run. We even wrote it out on are Garmin map. Do you see it??

Wednesday – Sick day. Due to the cold/achy feeling which started on Tuesday, it was a struggle just to get out of bed. NO miles were being run. Nada. I would have called in sick to work, but I didn’t want to have to go to work on Thursday, so eventually I got out of bed. It helped that around 7:15am (I work at 8:00) Alan came in while I was hiding under the covers trying to get 5 more minutes of sleep. I told him to go away, but he actually had breakfast for me, so he saved the day and I was energized enough to go to work. He’s a keeper 🙂

Another reason I had to get moving and get out of bed… I had another social event going on Wednesday night. I’m sure this flight of beer was not the reason I was sick. I’m positive about that 🙂

Thursday – Sick day. Ugh. Chest cold has taken hold. But luckily no sore throat!
Friday – 1.5 miles…. I tested the waters by dragging myself on to the treadmill. By a mile and a half I was drenched in sweat and knew this was not going to happen. I just HATE when I’m sick and can’t regulate my body temperature! Ewwwwww.
Saturday – Sick day. I was actually supposed to fill in for a Dave’s MIT group today, but luckily that gig got canceled. All of my friends (and husband) were out running their longest long runs (18 – 20 miles) and I’m stuck home sitting on the couch. On a good note, I did get caught up on a lot of magazine reading!

Sunday – Sick day. I did feel decent enough to get out of the house and visit the Henry Ford museum for the day. It actually felt good to be up and moving. I’m going to survive!

Wouldn’t this be so much fun to drive around town??

So that was my week. I’m hoping for some better mileage this week. Can’t get much worse, right?

Q: Have you ever been to the Henry Ford?
Q: Driving the wiener mobile around town… totally fun, or totally embarrassing?
Q: Have you ever drawn anything on your Garmin map?
Luckily we had someone more talented in our group to lead us through it!

I would totally drive the wiener mobile around! And glad you are feeling better now. 🙂
Thanks for helping out so much when I wasn’t feeling good. Sleeping in really helped!!
Yes! We have a whole group here that does “shape runs” once a month. They have some impressive ones. I am hoping to go this month. It’s a short run but so much fun to see it afterwards. I hope you feel better and have a better week this week, being sick is the pits!
I should have noted that our design was tiny, and made in the parking lot! A total of .05 miles! A large design would be a lot of fun. Sounds like a fun group – looking forward to seeing what your group comes up with!
Your week sounds similar to mine! I got sick on Tuesday and Im not sure what it was, but not a cold. I ended up sleeping so much throughout the week! I hope you are feeling better and can get back to your workouts.
Thanks, I am feeling a lot better. I can’t even remember the last time I spend so much time on the couch sleeping! I do still have a cough, so I might just stick to my treadmill for my long run this week. I think the cold air will just make it worse. Hope you are feeling better too!
Oh no, glad to see in the comment above you’re feeling better now! I’m glad you decided to rest up while you were feeling sick. I never understand people who hit the ground running and probably end up prolonging their cold because they won’t take an extra rest day when needed!
I really don’t mind taking a week off my training plan. I figured my body can always benefit from the rest!
