I realized I haven’t filled out the rest of my training calendar today, so I looked at my plan. Then I realized my next “long run” will be the Olander 24 Hr relay race!!  OMG!

When I last mentioned this race we only had 4 people on our team.  You do the math – that’s 6 hrs of running for each person!! [insert freaked out emoji person here]

Update – we are now up to 9 people on our team, and I couldn’t be any happier about it!  Running a zillion miles hasn’t been agreeing with me lately, so I was thrilled to hear the plan that we’d each get to run 5 times, with 3.3 miles, so a comfy 15+ miles for me on race day. (pic from last year…)

The plans are starting to solidify (thanks Rich for coming up with a schedule!).  We’re starting to discuss all the yummy foods our camp will have for those “not running” occasions.  The race will have a full assortment of foods to eat, but what’s not to love about having some cookies, s’mores and other delicious things at our race camp?!

We were going to take our camper to the race, and have our kids join us – but then decided the kids can go to Grandma & Grandpa’s house, and we’ll be rocking it old school in our tent.  Should be a fun time!!

Q:  Has anyone ever run a relay race?  Any Ragnar runners?

Q:  When is the last time you’ve slept in a tent?

Q:  Do you have any plans for Labor Day weekend?

  1. I was on a relay team for the Madison to Chicago 200 race probably 10 years ago. It was fun but….. I have no interest in doing another one. Six hot and sweaty guys living out of a van, sleeping in shifts, getting lost in the dark, and no showers convinced me once was enough. I probably haven’t slept in a tent in 45 years. When I lived in Atlanta, we hiked the Appalachian Trail several summers in a row. Not the whole way. Just parts in the Carolinas. I am flying to Jackson Hole with 6 friends to run the Jackson Hole Half over Labor Day weekend. Hope to sightsee some in Grand Teton National Park before driving to Denver.

    1. Being in a camp will be much different than the van relay shuttle situation. I’m thinking we will be able to enjoy a little bit of space from our team and maybe get some sleep? (hopefully!) Should be interesting, I’m a major crank when I miss out on my sleep. Apologies in advance to my team. haha! Jackson Hole is a place I’d like to ski, so I’m sure it must also be beautiful country in the summer. Have fun!!!

    1. We will definitely be using an air mattress, and it’s a big tent, so it shouldn’t be too bad. Unless it’s super muggy and hot… which it has a great potential of happening… However, I might just be fooling myself that I’ll even be able to sleep at all!! Maybe I’ll take a fan along!
