How are you surviving with that daylight savings time change??  Makes it a little extra hard to get up and run those miles, am I right?  Hopefully you had your long run yesterday so this morning was a “sleep in” day for you 🙂

Q:  What is your favorite pre-race dinner?

Q:  Ever had a bad race hotel?

One time in Columbus OH, we stayed at a place that had not one, but THREE, train tracks running on all sides of it.  After one train stopped, another went by!!  Combine that with two kids under 3 yrs old in our hotel room, it was a very sleepless night!  Since that time we’ve learned to check out the hotel location on Google Maps aerial view and avoid train tracks!

  1. Pre-race dinner: grilled chicken or steak, sweet potato, and asparagus 🙂

Worse hotel…. paper thin walls in jax florida…. I was awaken at 11pm by drunk college kids talking loudly and laughing …. went on for a couple hours and finally they went to sleep. I got up at 4:30 for race…. was tempted to make a bunch of noise and wake them up, but I didn’t …… however, by 5am, one was up puking his guts out…. I thought, yeah for Karma 🙂 lol

    1. But the funny part – “hey, it’s 11pm, what are you people doing awake!?!” That is an interesting pre-race dinner! Asparagus is a food that does not make it’s way to our plates here.

  2. Daylight savings meant this morning’s 20 miler was rough getting up to run! 6:00am alarm felt like 5:00am but luckily there were 4 other guys running so I didn’t want to be the one that didn’t show up.

And that hotel spot in Columbus was *horrible*! In addition to the trains, I think it was directly under the airport path as well. That was also the night that we couldn’t find any place for dinner that didn’t have horrible wait times so we ate pizza in our room.

  3. I just like to stay in hotels that are relatively close to the finish line. After running the Houston marathon, which was freezing and raining, we had to walk 2 miles back to the hotel- that was rough! I usually stick with pasta as my pre-race meal.

    1. That was a great thing about our hotel in Boston, after the cold rainy race, we only had to walk less than a mile… but it sure seemed a lot farther!!!
