Happy Daylight Savings Day! Yep, I am pretty excited to gain an extra hour today! I always feel so productive getting an extra hour. We are enjoying a super short camping trip… just one night! I don’t think we’ve ever done one night, but I’ll take what I can get. It’s a great way to wrap up the camping season and enjoy the fall colors. I hope you enjoy my collection of race shirts as Churchill’s half marathon gets closer. Only one more week to go now! Saturday the 13th is race day. Fingers crossed for good weather. These cold temps were a bit of a shock to my system this week! 22 miles running this week.

Oh, and one detail I haven’t mentioned yet is that my daughter will also be running Churchill’s half marathon! It’s her first. I’m excited to see how she does. I’m proud of her for taking it serious and putting the miles in while getting her college work done!

Mon – 4 easy miles.  I decided to wear all of my race shirts from Churchill’s as a little race countdown.  This one from 2015 is a favorite of many people and you will see it all over the town.  It’s my favorite too!  It was 39 degrees this morning and oh so cold!  Gloves and a headband were needed, and I was underdressed with just this long sleeve shirt.

Tues –  5 miles, 2 at race pace.  I opted for this version of speedwork instead of the intervals on my plan.  With less than two weeks until my race I don’t think there is anything to gain with speedwork unless I’m feeling great.  Today’s shirt was the 50th year of the race, 2017.  Our friend is the race director and we suggested that anyone who is 50 years old (my husband was) should get free race entry.  The race director didn’t bite on that one.  haha!

Weds – Rest day!  Here are pictures of cute foster kittens instead 🙂 Dill and Pickle are doing well!

Thurs – 6 miles, hills! My weekly hill run went well.  My right hamstring feels very tight, which is annoying.  I did extra PT work and stretching to make it feel a little better.

Here’s something that always feels good – kittens sitting on my back. Awwww!

Fri – Rest day!  I haven’t done any core work since before my sports hernia (April maybe??) and decided to finally give it a try.  I did my favorite 8 min abs video, but toned it down a bit.  It went well!  But wow, I was feeling it by Friday night.  Oof!  I need to get back in the habit of core work! We did go out for dinner and I enjoyed a flight of beers. Yum!

Sat – 7 mile long run, 5 miles hiking.  My last long run before Churchill’s. It started out in the dark. I did get to wear another race shirt. 2014 was the year I got my first DNS. I wasn’t a fan of the shirt style either, but it’s OK as a base layer.

We had one more opportunity to go camping for the season.  Luckily my daughter could join us too!! We went to Pokagon park in Indiana.  The leaves were beautiful and the weather was great!.  We hiked to Hell’s point and wandered around the park.  Enjoyed many s’mores by the campfire, and fell asleep all snuggled inside the camper watching Harry Potter. Good times!!

Sun –  Hiking, more camping!  Everyone got a lot of great sleep with the cold temps last night (35!) and layers of blankets.  Daylight savings made for a night long day too.

This upcoming week I’ll be sad to see our foster kittens go back already. They are big enough to be adopted, so hopefully they will find homes fast! Maybe we’ll get a few more though! I am looking forward to the race, and very interested to how the shirts will look. The race director allowed me to select the color this year among a few selections, so we’ll see how that turned out!! And finally, fostering kittens can be a challenge when the kittens are big enough to get in trouble. You never know where you’ll find them!

Q: At what temperature do you bust out your fleece lined tights?

Asking for a friend. LOL!! I’m ready for them now.

Q: Have you seen the Harry Potter movies or read the books?

  1. Not a Harry Potter fan.

Love your kitten pix. I would love to foster but I think my cats would go psycho.

Fleece? Definitely when under 20. I don’t drop the skirt until sub 40. Lol.

    1. I suppose sitting around in my running gear for a few hours after my run didn’t help, but I sure was frozen after a few of my runs this week! I’ll need to put some serious thought into what I’m wearing for race day!

  2. Oh darn! I was hoping to see pictures of Dill and Pickle for a while longer. Yes, kittens are mischievous! Last year when Muffin was a kitten she took down my entire Halloween display and broke my favorite candle. They definitely calm down though. I hope they get adopted quickly.
Your camping trip sounds so fun, and that is amazing you daughter is running the half with you! I’ll be looking forward to hearing all about it.

    1. As of right now she didn’t want to run with me, which is fine. She also thought my pace was too fast for her! 😂 But maybe she’ll surprise herself.

  3. I love the idea of wearing the race shirts as a motivating countdown! I used my extra hour to sleep, but it let me less stressed about my race today.

I think I’d wear fleece tights in the 20s. Maybe 30s if its windy.

    1. I’ll get getting into the less favored race shirts this week 😉 I must have gotten rid of a few of them. I think our race day will be a little warmer (maybe 40’s) so hopefully my race day outfit won’t be any really warm tights!

  4. Harry Potter? Yes, please!!!! I was totally sucked into the books (and the movies were pretty well-five as well). I loved seeing all the shirts! I did a similar thing the week of DAM to DSM a few months ago. Hey, if it’s a race we love, why not share the live 🙂

    1. I had to laugh about the movie watching. My daughter picked the movie then fell asleep about 30 minutes into it! But I do love most of the Harry Potter movies, other than the last few (too dark!).

  5. It definitely hasn’t been chilly enough for me to bust out the fleece lined tights (except for hiking!). High 20s or low 30s here this week when I was running.

I am not a big camper, and those temps — I also can’t imagine Bandit would enjoy it.

I do remember all the trouble kittens get into — it’s been like 20+ years since we had any!

Good luck to your daughter on her first half!

    1. I put an extra blanket on our bed in the camper and we slept like rocks! Such good sleep in those temperatures (we have a good heater in there).
Kittens sure can be a bit naughty… but so cute!

  6. I think it has to be below 25 for the fleece lined tights to make an appearance here. That said, I’ve been thinking about them. It’s tough to remember what I actually have sometimes, damn that runner’s amnesia! Haha! You had a great weekend for camping and how nice your daughter could join you. Wow I’m kind of sad D&P are leaving already. They’re so stinking cute, how can you ever be mad at them? Haha!

  7. Haha, love that both of us featured our beer flights this week! Yours are darker than mine. What kind of beer do you like? Chicago has an amazing craft brewery community. Some of the taprooms I recommend to friends are Half Acre, Revolution, and of course, Goose Island.

Good luck at your half marathon this weekend!

    1. Any taproom would be a good choice. I’ll look those up! I usually like lighter beers, but when I saw “s’mores” in a title I picked it. It was a stout and not my favorite! That’s the dark one in my picture. 😬

  8. I don’t even own fleece-lined tights! We don’t use them too often here.

I love your race shirt countdown. And those foster kittens! I’m sure you’ll miss them! I wish that we could foster some fur babies over here.

  9. How fun that your daughter is running the half with you! Our son ran his first half with me and it was so special.

I wear my regular capris down into the 20’s, but for temps any lower and I wear long tights over my capris. Years ago I had fleece lined tights but they were too hot for me and eventually I got rid of them.

I know you’re going to miss Dill and Pickle. The little calico looks like our cat Spot that we had years ago. 🙂

  10. I typically don’t mine DST since we “gain” an hour but I notice that it definitely messes us my sleep for a few days!

It was in the 30s a few mornings this week so I actually had to grab a jacket for running errands.

  11. I’m a Harry Potter freak haha! I’ve read the books like 1,000 times and I’ve seen the movies plenty. I prefer the books over the movies, but yeah, I’m a huge fan.

I haven’t had the opportunity to run in fleece lined tights yet, but if it gets below freezing here I might have to get a pair! It’s not a thing in Florida but now that I live in Virginia I might need them.

Good luck on your race this weekend! I know lots of people are racing this weekend it’s a big weekend for that.
